Western launch dates for Aion revealed
Filed under: Fantasy, Aion, Launches, New titles, News items
The hype surrounding Aion has certainly increased in the last month or two, particularly due to the hands-on time the public has had with recent beta events (you can see all of our coverage of the ongoing beta here). Whether the game has won you over or if you're just watching pessimistically from the sidelines, you're probably interested to know when it will officially launch in the western world. IGN is reporting that Aion will launch on the 22nd of September in North America, and the European launch won't be far behind on the 25th of September.
Other notable MMO launches in September include Champions Online, and Cities XL (for some European countries). Even with its recently pushed back release date, Champions will still be out well before Aion if its 1st of September goal is reached. Seeing as all three of these games aren't really very similar, their close proximity probably isn't too much of a big deal, but it does mean that some of the largest MMO launches of the year will be right next to each other.

No thanks to Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Aion-Collectors-Pc/dp/B000VL6OWG I thought Aion's release date was already set in stone. I had no reason to question Amazon saying September 1st... which it still does.. So when I first saw this announcment I wandered why everyone was so excited that the release got pushed back 3 weeks. *Sigh*

I must note, usually I am not too worried about game taking a long time to come out.. i believe in the "it's done when it's done" motto, but I also like it when a game releases a little buggy cause even though it crashes now and then atleast i get to play it! so for ME it's a WIN WIN!
On the other hand. Due to MMO burn out I have decided to play NO MMO's till Aion came out. So now I will be waiting longer then i thought... Sept 1st never really existed as a release date, but I thought it did.
Nothing special about Aion, I am not all the excited about it. I just saw a game coming out soon and said "OK i will wait till "that" game releases to get back into MMO's"

There's every reason not to believe Amazon dates; it's ALWAYS an estimate on their part. Same with every other online retail, if there's no official release on the game's official site no date given anywhere else matters.

maybe not for you... Aion and CO are the 2 big ones on my watch... still don't know which one to go with, and now that they're both being released in the same month, I'm gonna have one hell of a time trying to choose which one to go with... then there's that little spot in my heart for city building games... the first game I ever bought was Sim City, back when i was a wee little boy... and have purchased every Sim City title since and have loved all of them, with the exception of Societies, because it wasn't actually a Sim City game...
So for me, all three of these games coming out in the same month are a HUGE deal... I can't exactly afford to buy 3 brand new games and pay for the subscriptions on top of it... *sigh* what to do, what to do, what to do...

Some of the team from L2-NA has reportedly set up shop to support Aion. Fair warning to those thinking about taking the plunge into yet another NCsoft title:

Ten pages of why NCsoft should stop exporting games to the NA/EU markets unless they feel like actually supporting them. Don't get me wrong, they make fantastic games that are visually stunning and I am stll have fun playing Lineage 2...when I can find a location that isn't overrun with automated farming groups.
