Champions Online open beta coming in August
Filed under: Betas, New titles, News items, Champions Online
Mark your calendars, because according to fansite Champions Online Daily News -- and confirmed by Cryptic themselves -- August will be the month when everyone can flood into Champions Online's open beta. This information came from Daily News' recent visit to Cryptic's actual studio in Los Gatos, CA where it sounds as though the design team is sweating plutonium to get the game ready for public play.
We know many of you have been waiting to hear this news. With the game launching in September, it was only a question of whether or not a beta would happen -- August was mostly a foregone conclusion. Still, now that it's officially coming you can toss up your hats (or whatever article of clothing you would like to remove and hurl into the air) and celebrate. Beta's only a couple months away... just a couple more months.

I can't at this time and hopefully things will change over the next 2 months where I won't have to.

He won't, cause he's trolling.

Abriael is that you?
Just because some of us want this game to still end up being successful, doesn't make them a troll. I assume by your response, you gave up on the beta already and that's your right if you didn't enjoy testing it. But some of us are still sticking with the test trying to help fix the problems.
But yes, negative people like yourself are the reason I'm dreading that NDA from being lifted. I don't want to see a game tarnished because of negative feedback because the game wasn't for them, I'd rather people make up their own mind when the game reaches open beta in a few weeks.
Oh and it's she by the way. ;)

Since he/she/it is into War(can-do-no-wrong)hammer...so no, this is not an Abriael sock puppet. >:
But since you qualified your "drive by shooting"...I will guess I'll have to retract the troll part. Though you may want add substance to your statements off the bat in future so people like myself don't automatically assume your try'ing to stir trouble for the sake of stirring trouble. I've seen this sort of thing too many times...so you'll have to forgive me for my reaction. I had nothing else to go on.
As for your arguement...perhaps I do. But not so much so my brains will fall out. So I am open to critcisms and complaints about the future product...but they need to be given contructively with context. And not with a shoot form the hip sound bite....that just leads to confusion and nerd rage. See: trolling again.
Also keep in mind...that your experience with the game may not be the same for others. And it may not be your thing...doesn't mean it's not everyone else's thing. Thus, I look forward to the open beta to give many us a better idea what it's like...and draw to a more informed conclusion then.
Which I'll also point out: you can't possibley fear open beta more the relase date. Because we all know if the game is not cutting on release...it's doomed. See: Mark Jacobs.
As for my mistaken gender...you'll have to forgive my prejudice: most trolls are males. I'm glad you proven not to be either.

CCon99,
I am confused by your comments. On the one hand you are telling people not to be negative and fearing the personal reviews of current testers once the NDA is lifted yet you yourself fear the release of the beta and say YOU hope things change before August. I took that as you hope the game itself changes(gameplay, animation, story, etc).
I am sorry but your comment came off as negative about the release of Champions Online.
You need to be clear about what you hope changes instead of being ambiguous then saying you can't say anymore. Feel free to give us reasons why you are positive about the game.

For me, Champions Online occupies a similar position to that of WAR prior to release: MMORPG adaptation of a much loved offline game. So I really, really hope they can do a better job of bringing my childhood to the computer screen.

This is one of the only games in years I have been looking forward to playing in the beta. I hate random picking, signed up the moment they made it available. Maybe it is because CoX has always been one of my standby games that I have subbed since release.

It's a good game but it isn't a game the "hardcore" are going to call a real mmorpg as it's all easy, soloable and instanced/zoned. However it has the potential to be popular with the same people who liked Guild Wars and all that. Theres one thing letting it down though and thats theres no hype for it outside the hardcore and thats the audience that'll play it and not care for it unless they liked CoH. Though fans of CoH will probably find a way to say how it's not as good.
I just feel that theres needs to be more hype building for the game and the generic Champions Online name sounds like one of them Asian grind games that everyone ignores.

The game is awesome. CoH players might hate, but only because its going to sound the death knell. Its CoH on roids.

Steroids or haemorriods? Quite an important distinction, methinks :)
