Age of Conan offering two free weeks to previous players
Filed under: Fantasy, Age of Conan, News items
It's been a long while coming, but Funcom has finally announced their first re-evaluation campaign for Age of Conan. Anyone who possesses a previously active account can -- as of today, July 8th -- reactivate and play for two full weeks entirely for free. In the last year, the game has seen a literal avalanche of updates and improvements. So if you haven't been back in Hyboria since launch last year, you're in for quite a few big surprises.
The timing of the expansion announcement and this two free week return are obviously not coincidental. You can be sure that Funcom has been planning this quite carefully to get people buzzing about their game again, and kudos to them for pulling it off nicely. Of course, we've yet to learn what's coming in the expansion but something tells us it'll be doing everything it can to impress both previous and current players.

Awesome, I was waiting for this.
I've heard from people here how much improved this game is, so time to find out for myself!

I just happened to stumble across this elsewhere online.. I'm actually excited to check out how things are now.
Sadly, it coincides with LOTRO's reactivation campaign (which runs from tomorrow for two weeks also). Oh well, I guess it's easy enough to have a look-see at both! :p
The only thing is, the wording on the AoC one is a little vague. Is it:
1) You have until the 22nd to activate a *subsequent* two-week free trial (ie 14 days of play, even if you reactivated on the 21st)
or
2) You have until the 22nd to play for free, after which it reverts to a sub (ie: 1 day of play if you reactivated on the 21st)
Not quite clear.. anyone know?

HAHA!!
I just reinstalled last night. My bro-in-law was telling me about 1.05 and how much it's improved things, and I was going to re-up today. Now I get 2 free weeks to make sure I want to! WOO HOO!

@Amana
The former. Per the e-mail message Funcom sent me this morning:
"Your 14 day re-evaluation period starts when you first log into the game."

I'll have to dig up my AoC disc and give it another go. I was wanting to do that, but now I guess I have no reason not to give AoC another shot. Although I don't think I'll be holding my breath for something great to have happened to the game, you never know.

Just as long as I dont have to sit through that AWFUL Tortage. Hope they changed that.

My sarcasm meter must be broken because I can't tell for the life of me if this is a real comment or not.
On one hand, there's no indication that this is a jest. On the other hand, there's the fact that Tortage is easily the best starting zone in any MMO to date. I JUST CANT TELL!!!

I think that perhaps it was the 'forced' aspect of Tortage. Nothing sucked worse than having to replay the first 20 or so levels exactly the same way (maybe skipping a handful of quests once for a change up).
Tortage was amazing. The first time or two through it, but after that I was left feeling like I was in a forced treadmill with only one path to follow.

All the updates in the world and free game time won't fix AoC's horrifically immature and inferiority complex-rife community. Well...at least on Bane/Cimmeria.

Haha awesome. I just reinstalled last night as well (for the fourth time :\ ) and let it patch all morning. Perfect timing.

Anybody know of a place where I can download the US client? I don't have my CDs anymore. And I think the trial download is different than the full client.

The email you get from Funcom has a link to download the client. However, I can just give ya the link here: http://l3cdn.ageofconan.com/download/AoC/small/US/data-en.exe

I stopped playing after about 15 days.
My first impressions are the performance is now much better and change to item stats is great.

I've been debating giving this game a chance for a while now.
How does it play with ATI cards?
I'm running a ATI HD 4870 X2 is it stable with that kinda rig?

@Ayane It runs fine in DX9. I have a 3870 x2 and it runs great. In DX10 some zones just crawl while others are smooth and stable. Of course your DX10 experience may vary.
It is still in testing the DX10 version, but DX9 it runs really really well.
I'm using Vista x64, 8gig RAM, 3870 x2.
Make sure you use lastest drivers. That INCLUDES the march/april redist of DirectX from microsoft.

Cool ok...I'm actually running my X2 on windows XP pro (I'm waiting for windows 7) but I assume it'll be just as stable?
