You guys are completely out of touch. You even go as far as to make fun of your posters here at Massively for not liking the idea of tweeting in game.
Social networking and MMOs are different I don't log into a MMORPG to see status updates of what all my guild mates had for lunch what underwear they just bought or how they are mad at their mom. I log in to play a game with other people in a virtual world disconnected to twitter, Facebook, Myspace and the rest. I would really like to keep that stuff out of my games so i can remain sane. I don't keep several things open when i play a game I focus on what I am doing in game and don't watch TV or read Facebook while on a raid. Not that I raid, i dislike the concept of raiding as a crappy time sink gear lottery immensely but i digress... You don't need columns of tweets for people in game, thats what chat channels are for, they have been there for a long time. make a new one for people if you want to have separate feeds. Adding Twitter to Champions is a gimmick and following a fad. If you;d stop watching TV and reading tweets long enough to find out who in your guild needs help in guild chat you'd know, having twitter will not make you more attentive if your already missing these things and it will most certainly not make you a better player it just adds another distraction for you to not pay attention to the game.
Also how is CoD persistent? Each map is on someones server its not there all the time and it loaded and re loaded all the time. Its never persistent. Its the same all the time yes but not persistent. CoD is an MMO its cut and dry its online multiplayer game with a lot of players yes, you don't cover mmos in general if you did you'd read some stuff about CoD and games like it on here. I think the better question is whats an MMORPG, however thats still a stretch to write about the terms are fairly cut and dry. Besides who the heck says persistence has anything to do with mmos? I don't here that, i hear that people request it and like to have it in their though. We all know that heavy instancing and not having persistent worlds leads to a feeling of isolation and "gameyness" not a living place where people can interact.
Yes bark bikinis are my system and I give my approval to such things. Thank you for the shout out! ;)
Also I'm glad to hear the praise for AoC, I thought that it had potential to be a great game and now I may go back again and see what its grown to be.

This post is inappropriately long I think most people will scroll past without reading. Like I just did.

Yea yea...sorry I don't ascribe to the 'men covered head to toe and females wearing string' mentality every other nerd seems to be helpless against. >_>

Yeah... we were joking about that because... well... we're not too fond of it either. Seems to be overly silly.

Great episode guys! You covered a lot of ground and there was a lot of interesting info and opinions.
I really liked that some of you were critical of Aion. I think it may be the first time I've seen anyone in the media do that. All I can say is that its about damn time! Its not that Aion is a bad game, but its not exactly worth the universal praise that it seems to receive.
It was also good to hear some opinions of Champions. I'd like to hear more. Are you all bound by the NDA or can you talk freely about it now?

Wow, your review of Aion was the same.exact.review I had.
I played it for the first time this past weekend too.
Your review is right on, 100%.

I wouldn't say it's a review so much, because I only got to level 15 and MMOs are pretty unreviewable.
That said, I think it has some potential. I'd like to see how the game feels once you reach mid-to-high levels of play. I hope there are more experiences like the level 1-9 stuff!

I was hoping for a bit more on Runes of Magic:(
But I enjoyed listening to the segment on "redefining MMOs".
I actually wrote an article that hits on some points you are making. I also mention how their are evolutionary changes based on a shift of players perception on how and where they are deriving their "fun" in the games.

All in all it was a good podcast. Thank you.

You guys are a bunch of carebears, i admit DFO fails, a game I waited 8 years for was complete crap.. however I am now waiting for Mortal Online and i hope it will be revolutionary and bring back that pre-trammel UO experience.
However DFO is much better then horrible themepark mmorpgs such as WoW, LOTRO, etc..
Any game that has instancing is complete crap.
Mortal Online though will have everything DFO promised.
Full loot pvp, no instancing, LOCAL banks, caravaning, cities can be built anywhere like old SWG, houses built anywhere, there taming of any animals.. UO style.. breeding, etc..
MO will be revolutionary.
but yes, DFO failed completely.
Mortal Online is luckily around the horizon.

I really enjoyed this podcast. While Kyle Horner still managed to irritate me a bit, and often talked over Shawn and Colin, he seems to be getting more comfortable in his speaking. Perhaps speaking makes him nervous, because I enjoy his posts.
Great info on Aion and Darkfall. Player made "villages" sounds pretty interesting. It reminds me a bit of the player cities in SWG, which is something I miss, but maybe the only thing I miss from that game. I may have to check out Darfall if they ever have some type of trial period.
I'm excited for the Redefining MMOs segments. The term MMO has been morphed into some kind of all inclusive online experience buzz word, where every RPG is an MMO or an MMO has to have RPG elements.
Great show guys.

MMO
To me has to be where over 1000 people can play together in the same space in theory. I remember in the old MMO advertising it used to say thousands of players to one server or whatever. Was always this theme where it said thousands of people so to me thats what it has to be.
If I can only play with 100 people to one server then it isn't an mmo. If it's like guild wars where you're split off into isntances of like 8 players then it isn't an mmo.

The thought of defining MMO and not talking about the difference between MMO and MMORPG is pointless, they are two very diff things and your blurring the lines.
