Fallen Earth releases new fan assets
Filed under: Sci-fi, Screenshots, Fallen Earth, New titles, Wallpapers

A number of our readers at Massively have been playing MMOs for years, but of course this means that some people out there have had their fill of the fantasy genre. There are more genres to be explored in the coming years, one of which should please fans of games like Fallout 3: post-apocalyptic MMOs. Perhaps chief amongst these upcoming titles is Fallen Earth, a Mad Max-like take on a post-apocalyptic setting... but populated with mutants and factions of zealots.
Some gamers like the idea of playing in a very different kind of setting from what we've seen in MMOs thus far, and the Fallen Earth team's latest announcement is for those post-apocalyptic fans out there. They've put out a fansite pack, with all the art assets (new screenshots, wallpapers, textures and backdrops) you'd need to build your fan site. This will lead up to their Fallen Earth Official Fan Site Program, where approved sites will be eligible for "special site promotions and early access to Fallen Earth news and updates."
If you find this appealing, you can grab the zipped assets (66mb) linked in the announcement over on the official Fallen Earth site.

Fallen Earth is nothing like F3, because latter is actually rather good fun. FE is bloody awful. I have rarely played a game that is as bad.

My thoughts too. Might be the worst MMO I've ever played. Yes, it's still in Beta, but I've played enough Beta's to know how close to release they are. This game is really, really bad, IMO. Not sure I'd even play it if it was 100% free, so the idea of charging for the game and a subscription is ludicrous.

Their fan assets are pretty good. Gameplay, from my limited visit with a friend who is in the beta, was painfully bad.

The posts above obviously have not played the beta much if at all. Fallen Earth's system is promising. Its in beta, of course its not gonna be perfect. The Dev's are extremly active at the current stage. All good things, the combat is fresh and a nice change of pace from the standard MMO. Any gamer with a real understanding of what to expect from MMO's would have a respectful appreciation for the type of game Fallen Earth is trying to be. so far it has a growing Mad Max appeal and may continue to only get better. Seriously do not trust the opinions of those above, I have been a dedicated MMO gamer of all genres and this is definitely one to watch out for.

If I wasn't bound by the FE Beta NDA, I would rip this comment to shreds and tell you all the truth about the game.

I have to agree with the above posts. It's got a LONG way to go before really having a chance in this saturated market.
Tabula Rasa had a better fps type combat system, and we all know what happened to that game. FE offers a very robust crafting system though and that will be it's niche.
I wish them luck. They are going to need it.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but FE is not a good game. I have played in the beta plenty (and won't any longer). Is it the worst game I have ever played? No, but it is definitely not worth any type of subscription fee.
The combat that you highlight as a shining point is mediocre at best. The combat mechanics, motion, targeting, and animations are all clunky. I hate turn based combat, but this is not the answer. DDO, AoC, and even TR have (and had) far better combat mechanics. Yes, the first two are fantasy games, but DDO handles the combat mechanics nicley. I'm not looking for auto-targeting either. Aiming at a stand-still is even flaky.
Crafting is decent, but the resource gathering grind is not even remotely fun. It is as boring as any other MMO. You have a post apacolyptic theme. Make the resources truly contested by others in desperate need. Not the boring mob spawns that are the same all over the map. Spice it up with more incentive and PVP options. Start it early in the game also. There is far too much waiting for anything interesting to come along. People will play the first several levels and leave because of a lack of any excitement.
Performance is pretty poor for a game with such low graphical quality. Yes it is beta, but I got better performance from games 4 years ago on a far inferior machine.
What this all boils down to is poor execution. I don't care about the potential this game has, or what it is trying to do. I truly wish it made good on its Mad Max type promises, but FE is just a very bland offering. Having a great idea and not executing will only get you a big fat zero in this competitive market.

It will be interesting to see if crafting (the only thing remotely good about it) can sustain it.
I played it quite a bit and its just rubbish. Gunplay is horrible, melee is horrible, grinding is dull... in a word its not fun in any way. I love post-apocalyptic tales and games, but FE will do nothing for the genre.
Its possible that they could improve all these dire things before launch, but they would need quite a long time to do it.
NB: You know its bad when the fanboyz are robust in their slagging you off for your opinions.

I've been excited for Fallen Earth for coming up on 3 years.
All of that went away after about 30 mins in the beta. I had never been so profoundly disappointed in a game.
I hope they shut down the beta, and spend a couple more years fixing some serious, serious flaws.
