Latest SWTOR video showcases astounding levels of in-game footage
Filed under: Sci-fi, Video, New titles, News items, Star Wars: The Old Republic
Not only does the third Star Wars: The Old Republic Developer Dispatch video show plenty of in-game voice acting, it shows off the early user interface -- including the one used to make your moral choices in the game. In fact, if we didn't know any better we'd say the game looks like it's coming along faster than anyone had anticipated.
Then again, we do know better. Even though the footage you'll see is incredibly smooth (especially the combat) don't be fooled. BioWare has every intention of doing their normal thing, which means the game is done when it's done and with an MMO that can be a very lengthy amount of time. So much time that we highly doubt Star Wars: The Old Republic is coming out anytime before 2011.
No need to lament, because at you can check out the video below the break and let the awesome production values wash over you like a wave of editing, game developing and voice acting nirvana.

Firstly: COMPLETELY AWESOME
However, my main concern is the player character's voice. With all those lines of dialog with each class, does it mean that every player of a certain class will have the same voice? That's a tiny bit of a turn-off if so.

Jadsta, I believe that's Steven Blum. If you watched Cowboy Bebop, that's Spike's voice.

"No one has tried to deliver this amount of immersion in a video game so far."
FFS. I was quite enjoying it up until that.

Stunning. Lovely to see gameplay footage finally. Hats off to Bioware and Lucasarts. Very much looking forward to this game, as is my boyfriend. Having absolutely everything voice acted will change games forever, certainly MMOs. Wasn't so sure they could actually pull it off, but wow, does seem like they have cracked it.
Rumors have it that there are multiple voices you can choose for your player character, so its likely we won't all sound the same :) Worth keeping a careful eye on the SWTOR forums. No doubt we'll hear much more with the coming appearance of Bioware/Lucasarts at Comicon'09.
Can't wait!

Any misgivings I had about this game before were crushed into oblivion w/ that in-game footage.
It's literally KOTOR as an mmo. I was pretty skeptical about them saying it was, but I've read an interview about that demo they showed at E3, where the writer explained what happen when they chose different scenarios, and now, to see it in action... a-freaking-mazing.
It looks like it's going to be more of a Co-Op RPG, then a typical "mmo". And that's just danm fine with me.
anyone that says "WoW with lightsabers" at this point is a full blown ignorant mouth breathing fucktard. This game is going to be SO immersive. I. Can. Not. WAIT!!!

Yeah I really don't see how this stuff (which looks really kewl) will be able to scale up to even a small sized guild. Imagine 20 different people trying to sync up story lines so that they can play together? It definitely looks like "big-co-op" and not a mmo.

I do wonder at this. I imagine that since it is a MMO, and there will be a finite number of locations that a level 10 *whatever* can quest in, that each class will be sent to planet X with different quests. Then each class can work on their own personal storyline in the same area, together. Even if they are working on different quests, they will probably be bunched up in 'quest hubs' and picked up at the same time.
But it really just looks like WoW with lightsabers. :)

Interesting. My real question is during those nice shots of outdoor scenery, cities in the distance. Are there invisible walls along the path to them? Can you even walk to them? Or is it a bunch of instanced zones akin to AoC? If they are, that's negative points for me. If you can , however, go explore and have a ball trying to get to them and you eventually can, then WOW!

Well this is bioware and sadly its likey they are invisible walls like you see in mass effect and many other games I do not think they changes the way they design games. I somehow looking more forward to Dragon Age them this.

This game is looking more epic each time they release new info.
My only concern right now is, with content being so immersive and scripted. How will that effect grouping in this game? Will one player of the group be the "star" character? Or will each player be the main character in the dialog scenes?

Exactly? Will I really have to listen to the same dialog if I go back an help a friend who just started the Game? Will I have a hard time chatting with my friends when there are these guys talking all the time? If you walk by while someone else is starting a quest to you hear the quest giver yapping? What if there are 10 people starting the same quest/Storyline? Is it all completely instanced?
All the bits I have seen so far make it seem like this is a one month, or two month game and then I will get bored with the story, cuz really I could care less, I just want to kill stuff, and have fun with my friends.

This game just looks great.
For my money, the more Co-RPG/soloable it is, the better.
