What would you suggest they do? Here, and in that recent holy trinity article, I see people slamming the ht and healers specifically, but no one suggests anything else.

So come on, what would you prefer?

I think the real answer to the 'healer' conundrum is to just make a fun and engaging game without worrying what the jaded folk SAY they want or don't want.

But yes, healers in the Star Wars universe is possible. It's already in the lore in both medic form (healing after combat) and jedi form (application of Force Power). But really, if your enthusiasm is at nil, why would you even click through and comment on an article relating to this mmo?

2) Healing is present in Star Wars. Jedi have the ability to heal with the force. Darth Vader used the force to sustain himself. Obi-Wan healed Luke after his confrontation with the Tuskan Raiders. Palpatine used a healing on Anakin after he was burned up in the end of Ep3. In the extended universe there are even MANY more examples of force healing.

If Bioware is not reckless then they will be able to incorporate healing through the force quite easily. Beyond that, healing is easily presented through the use of bacta and science. Let characters specialize and train in the use of such things and it is easily explained.

Healing done right can be fun. It just depends on what you like and making it funnier than whack a mole.

I'm commenting on the article. The article is about healing in SW:TOR. My comment is about how I feel about healing in SW:TOR. That's why I commented. Jeez. Didn't mean to stir up such a nest of hostility, but I suppose I'll defend my position anyway because I like to argue.

@ Double9s: I would prefer a game that felt like the Star Wars movies. That's all. I don't want a trinity in SW:TOR because there's no trinity in the movies - I'd feel differently if it were a new IP - in fact, I love the trinity; I feel that it rewards grouping and encourages team work, which is really good in MMOs. In the movies, though, everybody does "DPS" to the best of their ability as a team: kill them before they kill you. I realize there seems to be not a lot of excitement in that using the current MMO model, but I suppose what I'm really looking for is a Star Wars game that breaks from the mold of current MMOs to provide a unique, deep role playing experience without the time sink of current MMORPGs.

I absolutely agree with Balkar's first statement, but my opinion of the game will remain low. Not that they have to please me or that they have any obligation to do so, as I have no obligation to buy the game. If they please you folks that's absolutely fine: you'll buy their game. I was merely stating that I don't have any interest. And I do agree that the lore allows for healing. No argument there. But characters who's sole focus is healing? I don't believe it would make an authentic SW experience. Simply my opinion.

I'm on this site because I like MMOs. If I were only interested in a single game or a couple games I'd go on those forums. However, Massively.com is a website featuring a wide variety of MMOs, not a specialist page dedicated to SW:TOR. Therefore I'm well within my rights to comment on any piece I like with the stipulation that my comment relates to the piece. Which it fully does.

@ Keen: How am I overreacting, precisely? A statement of opinion which presumes that my current position has not shifted either for or against the game does not exactly warrant your claim that I have overreacted.

@ Pedro: I cannot point you to ANY MMO without healing. Nevertheless, what I really said was healERS, and there is a difference. Actually, though, just because all games up to this point have healers doesn't mean that everybody needs to play by those rules. I'd rather they didn't, actually.

Well EVERY interview since E3 has been mostly rehash, but they are still relevant. This one gave a few new tidbits on the Holy Trinity and Healing and such. Still important.


And as for Space, they have deflected questions from it, but in a way that says there will be space. Less "No comment on space" and more "we can't tell you anything about Space yet". They're making sure we know there will be a space component, they just can't talk about it yet, which fits with BioWare's only showing off parts of TOR when they are fully playable on the server running builds of the game at BioWare.

Because WoW invented "healers, PvP, party healing", right? All games that use that have to be WoW clones. Isn't it funny how Dungeons & Dragons has been cloning WoW for the past 35 years? Almost as funny as WoW only having been around for 5 of those 30 years. Time travel......... right?

There is so much ignorance in MMO players these days, especially the WoW generation.

They answered shit all in the interview, the fact remains we still know nothing at all. What exactly is a WoW clone anyway? Conan and WAR definitely weren't WoW clones, they wouldn't be closing down servers and begging people to come back if they were.

How can you say for sure what TOR healing is like? That's what these interview questions are for, because we don't actually know. You yourself said *probably* in your next line(" It's just that TOR probably DOESN'T do it in a very original way."), even you don't know for sure what TOR's healing will be like. So you can't say for sure that it'll use WoW's system.



My guess for now is that all classes will be able to use Med Packs to heal themselves(like Mass Effect). If they kept healing to just that, it could make for a challening new system, where every player is expected to keep himself sustained while he attacks mobs and bosses and the like. There'd be a learning curve, but it would lead to more competent players in the long run who know to avoid getting hurt so they don't waste their self-heals. This could hurt potential tanks if there's tanks, but otherwise it could be quite creative use of grouping without the Holy Trinity.

I'm looking forward to striking most of them down.

I think what they really were trying to say is "Please, stop trying to sully this with wow comments."

People get really mad when every new game is released and is immediately called a wow clone. Blizzard didnt invent ANYTHING being done in the mmo genre. They just make it solid. Because of that, it's widly assumed that blizzard is some athority. I'm looking forward to it! Holy Trinity ftw, its what makes an mmo an mmo.
