PlanetSide merges last two servers into one

Now, normally people would be complaining and unhappy over hearing the words "server" and "merge" being put into the same sentence, but that's not the sentiment over at the PlanetSide community. This move has put the veteran players into a state of happiness in their anticipation of the merge. Old outfits are preparing for a resurgence as former players are returning to the game once more.
The only worry being expressed is one the issue of ping. Werner was, sadly, the last of the European servers. Gemini is located in Maryland, USA, so anyone across the pond may (and probably will) suffer a hit to their connection speed. Ping is everything in a game like PlanetSide, where lag creates missed shots and magically disappearing avatars. However, when you weigh ping against being able to frag more people, everyone seems to be leaning towards the ability to frag more people.

Yeah I got this email too. Kinda cool, but kind of sad =(. I hope the game doesn't end up dying.

Still a ok game, compared to the rest of the junk that is coming out. Nothing on the pc coming out has large scale battles..

If there was ever a game in need of a good reboot, it would be Planetside. Its got a lot of great things going for it, but SOE has kind of swept it into a dusty corner. Really quite a shame...

Is there really anything to replace Planetside? It was so fun in it's day but it's whole method of having a few templates of bases stamped repeatedly over the landscape rather than unique layouts for each one, it really really stifled the longevity. The only thing that changed between the areas was the number of trees and the colour of the ground.
I thought Huxley was gonna be good but the beta's boring.

Not really. Nothing with Planetside's scope.
I would also hop back in if it were free to play, at least up to BR 7 like Planetside Reserves allowed for.
They should just reboot the Planetside Reserves mechanic, just to beef up the server a little more.

We have 1 single hope and unfortunately its on the PS3. Its Massive Action Game. its actually a step down in concurrent players on the same map(down to 256) but its the closests thing to it. Actually looks to be pretty fun and its from the guys that did socom.
p.s. whats up with the alpha shot? Should at least have a shot that depicts the game a little better..

Just posted this so I hope it doesnt double post.
Logged on this weekend and we had 1 pop locked cont and 50 positions left on a second cont. This is the best i have seen it this year. 6months ago you were lucky to get a single locked cont.
And yes this game does have a ton going for it, i mean common what so strange about war in a completely (minus sancs) conquerable world? SOE of course is a fraction of what it use to be. Too bad people use this game as an excuse to not make a MMOFPS, or when they do they limit the pop caps. So correct me if i am wrong but how many other games allow 400 people to bash it out at once>? That right a 6 year old game. sad

Talk about a game that needs to go Free to Play, I loved this game back in the day and if it went F2P then I would totally play it again. I think that is a much better alternative then to have the game go away.

yeah I played PS years ago and it was great in its prime. I agree that like most of these old generations games, PS would probably benefit from going to a free to play or premium business model.
Instead SOE is gonna drag out it's death to the bitter end. Let's face it, at 14.99 a month not to many people are gonna pay for a primitive looking shooter.

Why don't they redo it and bring it to the PS3 also? I mean, it seems like a natural fit, almost...
