Create My Champion: The Grand Papillon
Filed under: Super-hero, New titles, News items, Champions Online
Results are in for last week's first Create My Champion and it was a close call. Even I wasn't sure what character I'd be creating in Champions Online until the very last moment. Eventually, however, the balance was tipped in favor of The Grand Papillon! Of course, this week brings another vote, but before we get into that let's take a look at what has been created this week.
As you can see from the image above, The Grand Papillon has a dark and mysterious past. No, seriously, he does! Just think about it: Why does he wear a cat-adorned belt buckle? Well, only him and the man who killed Mr. Mittens know the truth.
Yes, it's true, you shouldn't be fooled by his good-natured demeanor and gloriously groomed mustache. Papillon is a man -- much like the legendary Inigo Montoya -- who seeks black retribution.
The Grand Papillon is not like other luchadors. In his desperation to find Mr. Mittens' killer, he journeyed into the furthest reaches of Mexico and forged a demonic pact granting him great otherworldly power. He now posses an almost supernatural might. Without hesitation, he uses this immortal strength for combat. Yet there are more ways to make use of powerful gifts. Papillon also digs through the very earth itself, catching his foes unaware and pounding them into pitiful submission. If you see earth and rock begin to quake and rise up around your feet, know that your fate is already sealed.
Now while he may be looking for vengeance, Papillon is not without heart. He dashes down evil wherever it may rear its ugly, villainous head. In fact, his heroic exploits have already begun to transform into legend throughout the wider corners of the worlds. Soon, the very citizens of Millennium City will know of his deeds and maybe, just maybe, Mr. Mittens will finally be avenged.

So there you have it, I hope the first week was satisfactory! My experience with Supernatural for an energy builder and Might as a stronger, energy-depleting attack was very enjoyable. I think many of you are going to find that all of the melee powers work well together. And I've always loved tunneling, so this wasn't my first character to favor the travel power. When you're underground, the movement speed is less than say, superspeed, but the benefit is that mobs don't bother you so long as you haven't already attacked them. Unfortunately, if you have attacked them, diving into the earth won't save you completely unless you beat feet.
After looking at last week's entries, I do have one tip. Try to find a good middle ground on details. Just listing power combos doesn't seem to get many votes, but neither do huge detailed character concepts. People like 'em short, sweet and interesting!
Here are the rules once more, for your benefit. Since Champions Online allows for tons of creativity, there aren't too many restrictions beyond the obvious stuff:
Simply leave a comment with what you'd like to see me make and I'll pick character ideas based on popularity. If you'd really love to see a fellow commenter's character idea made real, leave a comment letting me know and it'll go into the tally. In the case of ties, a random winner will be chosen. In the case that only bits and pieces are requested, I'll merge them all together for maximum strangeness.
Also, voting will commence until Friday. So if you've got an idea or like one you see, don't wait to post until later!

^^ This, more than anything. Too too funny, Amana.
Looks like Freddy forgot to get dressed this morning. :)

hehe =)
In all honesty though, Freddy aside, is there really a place for snail-trails and chest-hair in a cel-shaded superhero MMO?
I mean while we're at it why not have a slider for 'sits neatly to the left / sits neatly to the right'.. or a 'clip the nosehair' minigame.. or make toenail cutting a crafting/service profession..
Ew. I think I just made myself feel ill.
Geralt from The Witcher had chest hair visible under his shirt, and it looked very well done along with stubble and a rugged environs.
But chest hair, a glistening body and latex 'pussy' hotpants on a tanned guy in a mask with a handlebar 'tache..
Ew I think I just made myself feel ill again. Doh.

And why does this French superhero named Papillon ('Butterfly') have an icon of a CAT on his belt?
Should not have won, imho.

So is Champions Online more than just CoH 2 or am I missing something?

You are missing something. CO will be very different in terms of gameplay/mechanics, and the visual style is drastically different (if you couldn't tell from all the screenshots).

Wow...he better have super powers, because there is this huge neon sign over his head that flashes: commit a hate crime against me.

Hm. A thousand possibilities and we get... a luchador. Okay.
Dual Blades + Superspeed = Runswith Scissorsman
His costume resembles the red lightning bolt warning label common to cheap plastic toys and dangerous appliances.
His catch phrase is, "Kids, don't try this at home!"

i have to say that the luchador looks a little...odd
but hopefully next time they choose Runswith sissorsman

and image if Grand Papillon had a battle with Runswith sissorsman!!

Here's a thought:
Beetle Monkey
An escapee from a deranged scientist who isn't quite certain how he created Beetle Monkey due to some incident in the lab at the time. Now the scientist, Beetle Monkey's nemesis, is trying to get back his greatest creation to "study" him so he can improve upon the experiment and make more creations similar to him. The scientist uses a bunch of his other mutant creations as his henchmen.
Beetle Monkey, is rather large for a monkey (very small for a human) and is covered in a beetles hardened exoskeleton (Power Armor). He uses his speed, strength and agility (Unarmed) to fight off his pursuers. He uses his Acrobatic skills to get around.
His exoskeleton should fade from blues and greens.
