If there was a GI Joe MMO, this is what it would look like

I am in love with the Champions Online character creator. I may not have a character past level 8 in the open beta, but I'm already wishing I had more character slots. I guess it's a good thing we can save our costumes!
With the recent GI Joe movie hype, and the simple fact that I'm a ginormous GI Joe fanboy since I was probably 6 or 7, I decided it might be fun to see how close I could get on recreating GI Joe characters from my youth in Champions Online. We've paid homage to this amazing character creator before, but we just can't get enough! Follow along after the jump (warning, large pictures ahead!) to see if you can name the five characters I created. This is not an official competition, and the only thing you'll win is my respect and love. Isn't that totally worth it?

Zartan, Flint, Kung-fu, Bazzoka ... but I can't get the last one for the life of me. Unless it's a Dreadnaught, whose names escape me.

These remind me of the GI Joe PSA redubbs that came out a few years ago.

All you need is the one with the feathery hat and you've got the entire Village People.

A GI Joe MMO would be awesome! I have been thinking about it since I saw the trailer for the movie during the Super Bowl.
The last one Monkeywrench?

The last one is Torch. I'll admit that while I recognized all of them, the only one I could name without cheating was Flint.
I went to YoJoe to identify the rest and reminisce about all the figures I used to (still? probably in a basement) have. Besides all the great Joe figures and loving the animated movie, I laughed at the ones with the soundbite backpacks I had, the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat ones, and remembering all the giant vehicles some of them came with.

Cryptic wants the names of all heroes that look like yours. Apparently if you make a hero's costume and name that violates copyrights, bad things happen.

You should tell that to Dr.Doom and Ninja Turtle I saw last night.

Nice job. Their character creator obviously has a huge amount of flexibility.
Cryptic should stop trying to make games and just work for other companies make character creators.
Too bad other games don't allow for this level of creativity. Makes WoW's look so pathetic, which it is.

what's absolutely hilarious about their character creation system is some of the words that you can't put into names.
Bolt - you can't have a character with the word bolt in their name. Now.. I know that Bolt was a character in the comics, but give me one reason I can't make a speedster named The Blue Bolt. There's no copyright issues there whatsoever, and even the most special kid on the short bus can see that.. but apparently the folks at Cryptic are on a short bus of their own regarding character names.
Some other gems that you can't put into character names
Archmage
Umbra
Dragon
valkyrie
Vindictive
Lad
Maiden
and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
The naming rules for this game are SO lame...

The last one, is it Torch? One of the Dreadnoks, or whatever they were called? Always liked those guys. :)

awesome! i hope this game doesn't disappoint. i'd really like a nice change from fantasy-style mmorpgs. i'm just not that into mages and knights. i hope that one day, they will create a resident evil-style mmorpg. it could be the most mediocre game, but id probably still invest a lot of hours into it.
