Champions reverts item adjustments, fixes critters. Free retcon included
Filed under: Bugs, Patches, News items, Champions Online
Champions Online got an update today due to a couple of nagging issues from the previous patch. Particularly, maintain-powers on critters weren't operating properly – that is, "not operating properly" in the "grinding your hero's face into the dirt" kind of way.
Additionally, yesterday's patch kind of messed up item-changes as well. As a result all items level 11 or lower have been reverted to their previous state, because apparently the defense values of these items was unaccountably lower than they should have been.
Cryptic are handing around free retcons for every character created before 3AM Pacific, 22 September.

It's funny.
After the launch day nerf and related fallout, they made a test server. These changes went up on the server, people tested it, reported these issues. They still went live with it. Next day, people log in, get killed left and right by same-level henchman. A rushed fix is put out right away.
That's not how you use a test server.

SWG's constantly buggy state was due to them not fixing bugs on TC before release to live, I hope Champions Online doesn't follow that same trend for its life cycle.

Beta test, test server.
Back to my statement from Aion. These devs are Hell bent on getting the game or patch out on a specific date that it renders the entire concept of a beta test or test server sterile. If Cryptic insists on tossing out code without feedback, save money by shutting the test server down and don't bother with future beta testing.

Any bets on whether tommorow's Dev Chat includes a "the majority of players are satisfied with the direction the game is going" canned PR line from Roper?

What a sad, sorry state Cryptic's in.

I think the chorus of this pill-popping, flibbertigibbet singer’s song describes Cyrptic’s current design agenda.

More seriously… I’ve never read a forum where the community coordinator complains that much about being understaffed. It’s like he’s (she’s?) constantly blaming their bad communication and under-whelming responses on being short handed. Publicly. I mean, I hate my job and my boss… but I wouldn’t be telling the customers that!

Pretty much goes hand-in-hand with how everything else feels under Roper's Cryptic.
Unprofessional.

I don't know, I logged today and everything looks fine if nothing else my average characters are doing fine better than before and without retcon.
