EVE minimum system requirements raised for Dominion expansion
Filed under: Sci-fi, EVE Online, Expansions

CCP Games periodically raises system requirements for EVE Online when they feel those minimum requirements are holding the game back. This is going to happen with this winter's Dominion expansion when players will need Windows XP Service Pack 2 to run the EVE client. The game will be getting a graphics update that includes a new look for some of EVE's planets and the Chromium powered in-game browser will require that XP users step up to at least Service Pack 2.
No hardware system requirement increases have been announced, just the need for players to update to Service Pack 2. This will only affect 0.4% of the game's Windows XP users, according to EVE dev CCP Explorer in his latest dev blog. CCP Games will also officially begin supporting Windows 7 with Dominion.

This is the first mmo that I have come across to officially support Windows 7. Much applause to CCP Games for being ahead of the curve.

People are running XP's without SP2? WTF?

I think pirated versions of XP can't download SP2 because it starts using the authentication tool.

Stop reporting every minor thing about EVE. Only the 16 rabid EVE regulars here care (and will reply to this comment). Start writing articles about something else please. There is no need to post 6 articles a day on EVE, it doesn't have that many players.
This is the part where the EVE players try to explain how they are the 3rd largest MMO or some other lie.....

Stop friggin reading these articles then. It's not your blog so you DO NOT get to decide what is posted.
And FWIW I am not an EVE player.

It's not your blog either, so you don't get to decide what I decide upon, see what I did there?

Yeah, you proved you have the reasoning capabilities of a little stone.

That's generous, stones usually know when to sit down and stfu.

Best not to reply to the trolls, it just encourages them. It is probably the same guy, sitting in his parent's basement, eating cheetos, f5ing massively, waiting for an article on Eve, then writing the same whiny stuff over and over under different names.
Get a life! (And I say this as someone who spends a lot of theirs in an MMO)

The reason I started playing EVE was because of all the articles I always read on Massively. The truth is, EVE is a very exciting and interesting game, not just in its gameplay but in the game and its continuing development.

I actually come here (well, subscribe to rss actually) because I WANT stories about EVE. Are there other sites I should be reading?
My main complaint about the EVE stories on Massively is that they're basically just summaries of the devblogs (which I also subscribe to). So if I read the devblog feed, there's not much new in the Massively summaries.

I think Massively is one of the best sources for breaking news about EVE (outside of the EVE forums, which can be a little dense at times and annoying to wade through with all the EVE Chronicle garbage). For EVE news and views I would also reccomend the Eve Blag Pack : http://www.google.com/reader/shared/user/13508179136225455934/label/EVE%20Blog%20Pack
While it is a lot more than just news, it is a good place to get info.
Keep up the Great EVE reporting Massively!!

I see now why people are always talking about how involved and fascinating Eve and CCP are. I mean news that it's going to require SP2 5 years after SP2 was released is truly game -- nay, industry -- changing. Truly important and exciting stuff!
By the way, if you read the thread you'll find that it'll still run on SP1 just fine, but the browser won't (alt-tab is harddddd....) and, in far more exciting news, they're updating their DirectX9 engine from -- My god in heaven, are you kidding me? -- an ancient Aug'07 to Mar'09.
