Final Fantasy XI gets third micro expansion, 'A Shantotto Ascension'
Filed under: Final Fantasy XI, Expansions, News items
Wait, did you guys hear someone cackling? It sounded like a boisterous, "O-hohohohohoho!" Wait... wait, just a second. Oh Shantotto, what won't you do next? Not satisfied with merely acting as the ruler of everyone around her, the Tarutaru known as Shantotto is getting her very own micro-expansion entitled A Shantotto Ascension.
Obviously, the logical story extension of this seemingly possessed professor is an attempt at her very own empire. There's a story focused trailer to check out, but there isn't too much more to know beyond the fact that players will have to take Shantotto down a few pegs. More likely than not, we'll be finding out more about this soon enough. So for now, check out the short -- if not curious -- trailer after the break.

I don't follow Final Fantasy XI, but isn't this like the 5th or 6th expansion or event in a row now staring midget critters?
Why no promotion for those hulking genderless simian man-things that no-one likes?
Squenix need to start talking those up, with them coming back for the sequel and all.

They were the focus of the base game, actually. One of them was the ultimate villain.

They aren't expansions by any stretch of the imagination.
They are quest chains. Period. One singular fetch quest chain, with 2 boss fights. And an extremely good reward.
In other words, it's micro transactions in disguise. RMT if you will.
FFXI community has been very, very disappointed with the "mini-expansions". The stories and cutscenes are bad. The quests are painful.
They are clearly SE taking advantage of the FFXI community for profits.
Last week they announced a new silver dog tag thingy that comes with an as of yet unannounced in-game item. Price? $125....
SE are truly the unchallenged douchebags of the MMO development world.

I dunno, the shameless whoring Turbine's currently going through with DDO is a good second-stringer, at least.

I disagree with you on DDO. When you can potentially buy everything in the store without spending a cent and by simply playing the game, I wouldn't call that "shameless whoring." I'd call it a pretty good idea.
