I want to see someone else's name on the box besides SOE. That right there guarantees that no matter what else happens, the game will have a chance to be fun.

Like Planetside, but with a semblance of balance. Also, the ability to run it on a variety of machines, not just top specs.

Listen it needs to be like the old early days of PS MASSIVE battles with an even larger progressive skill leveling sydtem, mods on weapons armour and clans / group bonuses etc.

The graphics will be a massive step up which would be nice but it needs to be persistant and built for the long term players increase leving from 25 too 100 the longer the better!!!!, introduce better medal system.

All in all in needs to be bigger bigger and bigger in every way MINUS THE BFRS!

PS is still after 15 years of gaming the most fun ive ever had, why no one has produced somtthing since is beyond me.

Massive fights, not just 32 v 32 skirmishes. I haven't played the original, but I hope that the fight isn't too fast paced, leaving room for tactics. Hoping that there are no classes that can't be changed, and that it has a cash shop that doesn't break balance.

The original was awesome. I was with an awesome clan and that just made it that much more fun. I'd say to keep the battles nice and large, they were very cool.

There needs to be more depth in the game though. Our particular outfit would do awesome 1 day and it'd all be forgotten the next. Tracking accomplishments and integrating it as much into the game would be awesome.

Also encouraging more collaboration through the gameplay would be a big win as well. I wish earlier on I had joined an outfit, It would have increased the fun factor for me earlier on in the game. We had squads who would roll on infatry, our own air force, and a couple of other divisions.

Can't wait to see what they come up with.

What's Planetside 2 to me?

Another SOE abortion that, if the fond memories of those few who played and enjoyed the first are lucky, will never actually see the light of day.

Better that then joining the likes of Vanguard, Pirates, and the first Planetside (go read the Planetside forums sometime, it's depressing) in the graveyard that is Station.

Someone already mentioned it but I'll say it again, graphics that are nice but not so over the top that the majority of gamers could not play it.

I would also like to see SOE listen to the playerbase. Have polls etc. on making decisions. Don't take months to years to make a change to something that need balancing. Triple shot on the JH, Galaxy Gunship and Lasher all come to mind.

Make the same weapons available to every empire to avoid people flocking to whatever had the latest buff. Have them take an experience penalty for 24 hours when hopping empires. Make the enemy empire weapons and vehicles available to pull from terms through cert points. 3pts for air, 3pts for ground, 3 pts for guns, etc. I'd think other empires could figure out how to make enemy weapons right?

Keep it so a rank 1 can kill a rank 40. This is one of the most original things about PS. Work in alternate advancement once you are the highest rank like there was in Everquest. Make it so these points can be reset and have them buff spawn times, vehicle pull times, etc. Just avoid having them make a character powerful in firepower and armor so a rank 1 could still kill them.

Add some resource gathering and crafting. Make weapon and vehicle mods so they are not so disposable. Don't make them so powerful that they are required. Give people something to do during off hours when the majority are not online or the fight is lame.

Reset the lattice at different times! Make something to spend outfit points on, outfit alternate advancement, etc. Create random bases in the lattice where the outfit that contributes most to its capture could decide where to place base facilities in advance and save those loadouts. This would allow players to constantly fight in a new type of base. There would be no more assuming the CC is upstairs in a tech, or the Gen is upstairs in a biolab. Base customization could be done through a simulator and could be also worked on during off hours.

Give advanced targetting to everyone or remove it and make damaged armor, and vehicles look dingy and smoking.

Well honestly I could go on and on. But I'll stop here I guess.

My only dissapointment in hearing PS2 could be in the works is that it took this long for it to happen.

Graphically, i'd suggest updating it to Unreal Engine 3 (UE3). Since it's an MMOFPS, it makes perfect sense to utilize an FPS graphics engine. Aion runs on UE3, so i'm sure by the time Planetside 2 gets released, an even larger amount of people should be able to run UE3 graphics.

Aside from not really being my thing, I do worry a little bit about the viability of a Planetside 2 in a post-Modern Warfare world. Not that it's exactly a direct apples to apples comparison, but I do think that the majority of the online FPS enthusiasts will be flocking to CoD.

For me, TF2 is about as far as I go into that genre. :)

My Planetside 2 will be Dust 514, SOE has horrible reputation and rightly so. I just don't trust them, CCP on the other hand does listen to the player base, usually...

When the original game was supported by SOE they did not listen to the fan base at all thus came the issues with cheats and lack of balance. At this time they also pulled the NGE move on SWG. Now SOE claims they have changed their ways. I welcome them to prove themselves. South Korean games use the UT III engine and still manage to code it to run on middle class PC's. I welcome them to do the same thing from a technical perspective. I think this time around they have a chance to pull this off the right way for the fans.

It's quite a coincidence they're "announcing" PS2 just when I subbed Planetside.
Why I'm playing Planetside? Because very, very few games allow any player to experience epic awesomeness within the first 15 minutes of playing.
It's entirely possible (I know because I've done it) to log in for half an hour, help the empire out and score a few kills and feel like it wasn't a waste of time.

So PS still offers one of the most accessible high-quality "endgames" of any MMO. Even when you're just starting out.

Not only that, but there's the awesome awesomeness. PS is at times amazingly awe-inspiring in ways other games can't mirror. Yesterday I was trying to cross a bridge all the while tanks were rolling past me, firing their guns, antitank planes skimmed the water on their way to the enemy and players dropped on the on other side of the river.

That's what PS2 should have to offer. Staying as close as the anonymity and team-play of "real" war while still being a fun game, and immensely accessible to any player, no matter their skill level and their playing-age.

Oh and everyone who's bashing SOE...

You're right. SOE has made horrible mistakes. But on the other hand SOE is a friggin publisher for the most part.
They have various studio's of varying quality. They fucked up SWG, but they also released a succesful Free Realms.
If they just hand the job to the right studio/team they could have a massive winner on their hands.
SOE has Planetside, which is an immense pro if you want to kill every other MMOFPS out there.

So I'm not going to dislike and review Planetside 2 before it's even out.

I only have a few changes to the origional game...

I want space combat, and not EVE online ship-wise. I want a full playable crew, with an interior to the big ships, the ability to have boarding action, and I want to have fighter bays and such. It'd be cool to have it be somewhat like Star Wars Galaxies' space combat, but better and with even BIGGER ships!

What do I want? Serious disadvantage to Air Cav users. For those not in the know Air Cavalry are/were single one man aircraft typically fulfilling scouting, intercepting and simple gunship roles. However, what they also were, was quick transport for high level characters to the point where it made most of the dedicated transport vehicles nearly almost redundant.

I always felt pilots of those vehicles should have been required to wear a gimpy pilot armor, so that they couldn't simply hop on their one man sky taxi and zoom to the next fight and arrive ready to fight on the ground. A less obvious choice of easily superior vehicle would have been appreciated.

Other than that, scaling population locks, or limits to how many people could fight in a single battle. Certainly in recent years, there simply haven't been enough people playing, leading to stagnant and uninteresting three way battles where one empire inevitably gets double teamed. While less people in an MMO is rarely a good thing, the game really needed each empire to field about two full pop-locks worth of players to work well.

I absolutely loved the first Planetside. It was my first large scale multiplayer game so perhaps my view is a bit tinted, but I still think it had a solid concept and was executed well. Its downfall was the utter lack of real support later on in its life.

My ideal Planetside 2 would be an upgraded Planetside. By that I mean similar concept and core design, just expanded to allow more variety and a smoother game. Perhaps new objectives to go with the old one of capture the base, more variety in weapons and vehicles (it already had a good selection actually), and a good balance amongst the factions (3 is a good number btw).

Graphically, Planetside wasn't the best, but it had a charm about it that I hope is maintained in the sequel. I'd hate for the game to have that generic shooter look as opposed to the quite colorful original game.

Honestly though, as long as SOE for once decides to put the required time and effort into making and supporting the game, I think it'll be great.
