EVE Online achievements via Avatars United
Filed under: Sci-fi, EVE Online
CCP Games may not feel that an Achievements system (beyond the bragging rights with Certificates) really fits the setting of EVE Online, but it's something players can get via Avatars United, a social network for MMO gamers. More specifically, Avatars United is a social network for your avatars across a wide range of MMOs. We mentioned Avatars United and its growing EVE Online community a while back. The guys at Enemy Unknown -- the people behind Avatars United -- have built some EVE-specific apps for their users which might be of some interest our readers. These apps make use of a player's (full) API allowing the apps to access and display all sorts of character information within the Avatars United social network.
There are currently three applications that EVE players are using:
- EVE Achievements -- these character achievements, nearly a hundred in all, are grouped by categories. Achievements are earned through the items you own, skillpoint milestones, what you've accomplished with invention and reverse engineering, and everything in between.
- EVE Kill Tracker -- this app lists your kills and losses, displaying them on your Avatars United profile. They can, however, be kept private. EVE Kill Tracker essentially displays the info found in your Combat Log in-game, but tied in with a social network and a ranking system among the EVE pilots using Avatars United.
- EVE Online -- the first and most popular EVE app from Enemy Unknown, this simply allows users to display their character sheets, certificates and all.

Achievements suck. One of the many reasons I quit wow and switched over to EVE.

I know that a former CCP developer was making a social network for games with Eve as one of the games they support. Is this that one?
That developer had an Eve character that was known for scamming. He quit his job when people discovered what character he was playing. (CCP forced their employees to choose between character or job if their idendity was revealed).
So , do you want to trust your full api key to a person that choose his character above his job and is a known scammer?

Hey Deadlock,
I am one of the guys on Avatars United, the community site hosting the apps that developed this specific apps. Trust me none of us has ever worked at CCP, none of us has ever scammed people in EVE Online. You can easily doublecheck the career background on LinkedIn.
We are hosting an official contest with CCP (http://www.avatarsunited.com/eve-app-contest) ending today and I doubt that they would have endorsed us should we have been known scammers.
I appreciate your effort to inform people, however in this case it wasn´t true. We are small group of childhood friends developing the site and all of our efforts go into building cool resources for gamers. Its an open platform so anybody can contribute.
Best! :)

Hey Thor,
Ignore the trolls ;) I appreciate any attempt to enhance my gaming experience, especially in EVE. I'll check this out and tell my friends.
To anyone else confused about the API system, one of its most important features is that it allows you to share character data without giving access to your account. So don't worry about getting an account hacked through the API system.

Even the "Full API" key will not let anyone scam you. Sure, they'll know what skills you've trained, ISK in your wallet, etc. But it does NOT allow access to your account.
Also, you can change your API if you think someone is misusing it.

You can also see that on the limited API.
Chances are that if you're giving out your full API for sites like this then you're just going to do it again anyway
