See the full Star Trek Online Federation player ship list

With the entire list of flyable Federation ships known, it's safe to say we'll start hearing more about Klingon ships sometime soon. And with a substantially smaller list of established Klingon ships to pull from the movies and series, we're looking forward to see what Cryptic has up their sleeves.

Anyone else surprised to see the Constitution on there? Yeah it's a fan favorite, but that would be the equivalent of seeing a WW2 fighter sitting next to a modern F-22.

I have to say that the US modern military repurposes once front line combat vessels or planes for other jobs when they fit. I would point you too the B-52 which is still awe inspiring but there are a number of others.
My point is that if a design is good then it can still be useful so it would not be out of bounds for front line pride of the service ships to still be in service in a lesser role a great deal of time later.

Right but the design was not good. In Search for Spock it was already considered an obsolete design and by The Undiscovered Country the Enterprise was the only ship of that class still in operation, and it was heading for the shipyard at the end of the movie. This was 80+ years before the first Episode of TNG.

During the Dominion War they repurposed a few old Constitution Class ships, at least in some of the novels.
Also, A Constitution-class ship served was destroyed in the battle at Wolf 359. You can see its Hull in the TNG episode.
I think it is odd that it will be a playable ship, but its such a fan favorite and they want to appeal to the widest variety of fans (read: customers) possible. Plus this is just the launch list, I am sure they will add some of the other newer ships. (And possibly some of the older ones if they turn out to be popular. If Champions Online is anything to go by, Cryptic could add lots of stuff pretty quick.
All in all, I think the list looks good. I am curious what the Hope-class is. Its in the same place as Olympic and according to the internets: "In an interview with Mike Okuda in Journey's End: The Saga of Star Trek: The Next Generation, it was stated, and shown on his computer-generated dedication plaque, that the USS Pasteur was of the Hope-class, named after the WWII hospital ship, USS Hope (AH-7). It was later revealed in the Star Trek Encyclopedia that the name "Hope-class" had only existed in an early version of the plaque, and was later renamed as Olympic-class. So I wonder what they plan to do there.

It's unlikely to be the original Constitution-class, but rather a "modern" take on the old design.
We've already seen screens of the Miranda-class, and while it has the same general look, it's not the exact same ship class that Khan hijacked in "Wrath of Khan".

Both the Constitution and Constellation Classes need to go from that list. Both ships are atleast 120 years old by the start of the game. List is lacking other "more modern" ships, such as the Ambassador and Nebula Classes. And the Excelsior Class would've been more appropriate than the Constitution Class.

Could the listed Constitution and Constellation designations be ground up redesigns that were given those designations to honor two of the most sucsessful designs (of their day)?

Have they mentioned yet how the big ships will be run, actually any for that matter? IE; will it a take a guild to operate a cap ship (keystone cops come to mind) or will you see single player cap ships?
Imagine, a warp core breach due to combat or whatever damage, the ship pops, and those 50 or so guildies are frozen corpses in space, a sight to see.

One player, one ship. They have no vocalized plans for ships being crewed by more than one player at a time.

Yah, it's one pilot per ship which I kinda... don't like. I would've been much more interested in a team of people manning and operating a ship. If somebody disconnects then their n. 2 takes over, stuff like that. If I wanted to play ships in space, I'd go play Eve, BP (which I think had some people manning turrets footage in a trailer so that's awesome), or Jumpgate (is this game out? I remember being excited for the release in June).

Constitution class but no Excelsior class? Now that's just silly. Are we certain that the Noble and the Majestic are going to be based off of the Sovereign class?

The Norway and the Akira are two separate classes. Then again, Noble and Majestic definitely sound kingly, so maybe they are both different Sovereign configurations; like the Nebula class is to the Galaxy class.

Considering the time-travel elements that have already been discussed, I'd imagine that would be able to pick up the Connies somewhere in the past and bring them back to the present in that way.
DS9 had some kit-bashed Connies in the background during some of the last episodes, perhaps we could also think of Cryptic's ones being 'digital kit-bashes' :D

As ridiculous as what I'm about to say sounds, I won't be playing if there is no playable Nebula Class starship for the federation. I f-ing loved that ship and always dreamed of commanding one as a teenager. There is really no point to play anything else for me. Anything else would be settling. Nebula or bust.
