Alganon to be exclusively distributed through Direct2Drive

Alganon fans, you're going to want to make sure you're keeping an eye on Direct2Drive, as Quest Online has announced an exclusive partnership to sell the game solely through the online digital distribution service.
Pre-ordering the game before the launch date of October 31st will net you a variety of incentives, including beta access, study bonuses, mounts, family heirlooms, and more! While we don't have any exact information to offer on what those items are, it still sounds like a nice plethora of stuff for buying the game early.
Of course, partnering with D2D means partnering with IGN, and that means that Alganon's beta will be conducted exclusively through Fileplanet. Those guys over there will be the keepers of the Alganon beta keys from here on out, so look to them if you're interested in the game's upcoming open beta.

Now if only anyone had any idea what it was...

My opinion of these exclusivity deals is not high. It seems like they could draw more people in by putting their game out on other major downloading services. Boxes are on the way out, so if you are only advertising and distributing your game through the internet (which is a pretty large place) then you should be on as many sites as possible.

Pffffft. Yeah, I'm really gonna pre-order this game when I don't even know how much the subscription fee is going to be?

Apparently, $39.95 for the client, and $14.99/month subscription, with discounts for 3/6/12 month subscriptions.
i.e. they are charging AAA prices

If anyone lays down money to pre-order this game, sight unseen, I can promise you with absolutely certainly that they will have cause to regret their rash decision.
I've seen quite a number of MMORPG betas over the last six years, and never has there been one in such a poor state so close to launch as Alganon.

I actually would have loved to spend some money on it. I have been in beta and thought I'd be supporting them. That said, I won't. Why? Well, I honestly don't like their approach to pre-orders and pre-paid game time getting crazy bonuses, like the 10% bonus on skill training. Besides, 40 Dollars for the game? Come on, I understand the need to get your investment back, but this is crazy. I'd rather play some WoW then. :-)

Can you honestly say from your time in beta that this game is even of an acceptable quality for a free-to-play game, let alone a full-price $15/month subscription title??
Or do you think it's crap, but you're willing to toss them a few bucks because they're nice to their community (which, don't get me wrong, they are)

I guess it's the latter. The game is not up to anything's standard I have recently played, but it has some interesting concepts that could turn out well. Got to be interesting to see how this will turn out - ha ha.

I wonder how long it will take to go f2p. As it stands, the game is an wonky mess, and a blatant, yet poorly done, WoW ripoff. Charcter creation, style, interface are very, VERY much like poorly done copies; along with clunky and unresponsive combat. I doubt this game makes it 1 month before either going f2p or shutting down. IMO, of course. Don't believe me? Go take a look at the games website yourself. Not trying to be a troll, just after playing in beta, I can't believe they are actually going to CHARGE for this game.

The funniest thing, to me, was that their original goals were unambitious but not totally unreasonable: write a basic WoW clone, and use that platform as the starting point to implement some interesting new ideas.
Problem is, they've spent so long writing their (very mediocre) WoW clone starting point, that they've run out of time to implement any of their interesting ideas. Seriously, looking over the list of original features from their website that initially got me interested in the game, NONE of them are currently in beta.
So now the money has run out, and they're going to rush to market a horrible failure, which wouldn't even attract an audience if it was free.
David Allen might have been shafted before Horizons was released, but this title is going to get the exact same reaction: "nice game design, pity the game bears no resemblance to it"

Have any of you guys played beta? It is nowhere near ready for release for atleast another 5 months. The game has some serious issues and lacks a load of things. Most of the game isn't even finished. Only 2-3 areas exist per faction. Trust me, I went exploring over the mountain side and it was nothing.

Yah, I was surprised by how shonky the whole thing was after a few hours' play today. You can see that a lot of effort has gone in to the whole thing; the environments are great, the icons are all spot-on, the animations are good even though the actual character models are a bit rope, and the study time stuff is great. But the whole thing is like a cake made of superior ingredients that didn't bake well and ended up a bit messy.
For an F2P, I could roll with it, but for AAA money, it's asking a bit much.

This could be the lowest quality p2p mmo released to date. I've played in beta a bit and that's my opinion.

Could not agree more. We've seen the trainwrecks that occur when supposedly high-budget p2p games launch and can't compete with the market leader for quality, polish, content (c.f. Age of Conan, WAR), but this one can't even compete with the free-to-play competition!?
