Star Wars Galaxies releases game update 14 patch notes
Filed under: Sci-fi, Game mechanics, Patches, News items, Star Wars Galaxies
There's quite a bit going on in the Star Wars Galaxies universe with the latest patch. Game Update 14 -- Death Troopers keeps the story moving forward with new quests, a new gift, and some handy changes to gameplay.
"After a mysterious turn of events the Empire has mustered an enormous military presence in a remote location on Dahomir." So begins the introduction of the Death Troopers storyline, for players who have completed Something is Obviously Wrong from Update 13. Players still working through that quest line will have Death Troopers available to them upon completion.
SWG offers up some fun new items with this patch, including an Undead Rancor statuette and new paintings from Navari Trik in Mos Eisley. On a more functional level, several improvements and minor changes have been made to the Vendor and Chonicles systems, and a few minor bugs were taken care of.

If they would update the Graphics Engine and the Physics engine this game would be awsome. But with updates that have ewoks with angel wings and zombie bat wings unstead of resources being used for updating this game to compete SWTOR i think this game might die.
I wish it wouldnt i have enjoyed this game but they need to do some updates on those two things listed above.

The game has been dead for a long time. It's cool you're still enjoying it. Everyone has different opinions and preferences about gaming. Whenever anybody brings up SWG, the NGE is mentioned for a reason. SOE killed the game and taught the industry what not to do post launch in an MMO.

I have enjoyed this game for the last 6 years, but they need to do some updates on those two things listed above.

Long live SWG ... I hope this game makes it to it's 10 year birthday just to upset the "NGE destroyed my game" crowd.

I hope it makes is 10 years, If they pump some Graphics, physics and atmospheric flight it would go 20 lol.

The game living for 10, 20 or even 100 years doesn't mean that the NGE didn't irreparably damage the game.
I don't want to see this game die, I hate to see any game die. I won't play it though, because I genuinely don't care for it's game play.

I know if I don't login to the game within 2 days(for the first time in 4 years), my characters will be stuck in limbo on one of the deleted servers. I'm almost considering paying up a month to see how it is now. TOR won't be out a while, and I'm hankering for a Star Wars MMO.

Just let go, I was stuck with this same issue, and decided it was time....
So sad really, just listen to Gary Gannon's interview with Raph Koster, really shows how great this game used to be for many folks

I know how great it used to be, I played 4 years ago and quit with the NGE. It's been 4 years though, and I'm on a WoW burnout break and kinda curious. I downloaded the Station Launcher to try to download SWG, but it seems it wants to make me pay a month before it does. I don't want to pay a month only to find out I need to get the disks from my friend to re-install.

The video was more to illustrate how great the game was, rather than to call into your question your knowledge, your response was a little terse.
Curious, then give it a shot.

If only you could've given me a video showing how good it is now. 4 years since the NGE, they HAVE to have improved it a little.

I guess I'm not playing after all. I played using a friend's credit card back in the day, and tried to resub using my own credit card, and it says "This payment source is already on file". I think it's because I made a different trial account once using my own card(but never activated that account to full). Stupid idiosyncratic payment system, apparently 2 accounts can't use the same credit card. Sucks for children that play a SOE game alongside their parents(or me).

Wasn't this game originally supposed to be set between the events of ANH and TESB? I'm pretty sure the game has now gone on longer than the entire Galactic Civil War.

It went on another 15 or 20 years if you count the war the Empire had with the New Republic(the Rebellion's successor). But the original GCW in the movies, yes SWG has outlasted that.

The same thing happened to the show MASH.
I really miss that game. SWG is a game phenonomenon that is filled with "I wishes"
I wish that they never made it so that everyone was a Jedi (was best with perma-death)
I wish the NGE/lets make SWG like WoW never happened.
I wish instead that they made space combat more like EVE instead.
I miss my house and my fish tank and my Tattoine sunsets.
I would argue that the death of SWG led to the death of RP in MMORPGS as well.

I'm glad to see SWG in Massively once and a while. The game still has a lot going for it. Out of all the MMOs out there right now, of which I have played many, it always comes back to SWG for me. Right now it is my primary MMO and I am enjoying it and the people in the game.

what they really need to do is have servers set up to pre NGE just a few, so people who love the new way can an enjoy it and others who liked it the old way could also, everquest did it with the legacy thing or what ever why cant SWG do it, set it up as two games for the price of one... not many can resist that.

I was part of the "NGE ruined it" crowd for the longest time. But now I have recently returned. Honestly if you want to play a great sandbox game with tons of things to do then this is a good one to be in....IT'S STAR WARS DAMMNIT!
If you set up you're keybinds, and UI right it plays like pre-nge. No there aren't any massively OP weapons dropping randomly off of mobs. You won't be able to solo 10 players. Maybe 2v1 if your good.
If you want to be a jedi there is still plenty of grind for you to feel like you earned it.
Stop being grouchy and just play.

is there only 1-2 Jedi per server like in the old days? If that's the case, I'll come back.

Nope! Hard to only have 1 or 2 Jedi when you can pick Jedi at character create!
