Aion's spam filter is bigger, stronger, faster
Filed under: Fantasy, Aion, News items
Gold seller spam got you down; keeping you from purchasing Aion? Fret not, fair... uh, would be Aionites, because NCsoft is working towards fixing the solution through improvements and good will. We already know that essential 24/7 GM support is on its way, so the news that the recent 10.5.0.10 added an improved chat spam filter is delicious, vengeful frosting on our Crytek-powered cake.
By our observations, spam has been reduced to the occasional whisper or channel message from a character with an odd umlaut or whatnot in their name. Hopefully the update continues to hold water, and the gold sellers simply recede into the darkness from whence they came. Should the spammers ever return in force, we hope that NCsoft is ready to sweep an otherworldly banhammer of justice across their maw in a manner most pleasing to all of us in the community.

This is wonderful news. Since the patch has been launched, I haven't seen any form of spam other than the pesky mail-spam. Lets hope they wrap their fingers around that one aswell.

Umm sure spam filter is great but i won't touch this game till i read more about there efforts combating the bots. I did the whole bot land game with Lineage 2 and i refuse to do it again.
Oddly enough both games are published by NCsoft.

Definitely good news.
However, I do not think there was a goldseller spam problem in Aion, that would keep people from playing. Block 3-4 sellers when you log on and you will not see any goldseller ads for the rest of the day.
Spam of nubs whining about goldseller ads in the LFG channel is a different matter tho. :(

The spam is rampant and the bots are even more so. The fact that they didn't have 24/7 GM support on day 1 is piss poor. /canceled this game before I hit level 10. Unbearable.
Do yourself a favor and don't purchase it.

So you wasted a $45 game without ever even leaving newbie zone? I guess thats kinda like the equivalent of binning HAlf Life 2 moments after you got your crowbar. Ohwell, less bitching griefers to spam newbiechat is always a good thing.

clearly you all are forgetting about what it was like when WoW released. Seriously, stop your QQ. the game will naturally improve as time goes by. The thing about Massively Multiplayer Online Games is that they are, well... Massive. It would take literally years upon years of development for someone to create a perfect MMO, so cut them some slack for the next couple of months. basically, try to remember how WoW was before it had billions of dollars in development behind it. I see Aion as a game that has tons of potential.

Uh, not having GM support on day 1, in 2009 of an MMO launch?
No excuse for that whatsoever.
It has NEVER ever been this bad in WoW, EVER in the history. And the bot situation is another story altogether. It's like NC soft designed it with bots in mind and favors them.
WoW was far better at all of this stuff at launch.... it had none of these problems.

wasted a good part of the free month unable to log in and combating spam. Now that people are canceling their accounts they decide to add 24/7 GM support. Too little too late NCSOFT morons. pretty game but thats all it's got going for it. Keep getting bad flashbacks from the Tabula Rasa days about the God awful support they provide. spam bot in middle of Pandamoenium but /autoreport hunting doesnt work there the error says. wtf? You would think a seasoned company like these idiots would have solved most of these problems within the year the game was out in Korea. Maybe they dont mind or like spam there. who knows? block lists fill up in no time. No replies to petitions ever so have to call them on the phone instead.

So you thought using a bot command (It even says /autoreportHUNTING in the command name!) was going to work .. and when it didn't you're upset?
Go back to Hello Kitty Online. You're clearly not capable of common logic, which only means you'll screw the faction that you're on at end-game (not that you'd MAKE it to end-game anyway since you're unable to grasp even the most BASIC concept).
/sigh

Cracks me up. "oh I got to level 10 and the game sicks" lol please.
I've already leveled 2 charcaters to 30 and I can honestly say that the amount of gold spam has been dropped to almost nothing. I went all last night and didn't see one gold spam or get a whisper.
It's amazing the bs people reach for when they can't think of anything else to complain about.
They said they'd fix spam, they did. Bots are next.

Oh, I'm not reaching for anything. I chose spam as the subject because that's the topic of the article.
The game itself is pure ass, and you're a fool if you subscribe.

NCSOFT GMs are apparently trolling here now

It would be "Fair Daeva" since that's what every player is called by the NPC's and the Developers.
Again...nice research >.>
Wow i'm being a know-it-all this week.
Lo siento.

Whats with voting down a comment just because they don't agree with your opinion of the game.... is it really that hurtful?

They don't want people who have not yet bought the game to know how horrible it is. They hope that more people will make the same mistake they did and buy it in spite of all the valid negative points that have been raised about the game and it's support (or lack thereof). It's common behaviour among community of a game that is on the verge of falling flat on its face.

So much for that, the spam is in full effect again tonight. Sigh

Yeah, with lack of support and how they are handling the game I feel like Funcom/AoC all over again. At least they aren't going through deleting posts on forums. They just ignore them.
I had high hopes for this game but they did major mistakes out the door like stated above, no 24/7 GM support out the door.
Maybe in 6 months but Funcom even learned if you fix all your problems and add innovative elements you can't re-earn peoples trust when they can go back to a trusted environment with a steady stream of content and decent support.

It's not the spammers which are the problem, it's the bad design. I've just learned there is a 17 hour lockout timer on the first instance -- die and you can't get back in for 17 hours. What... the... F..?

Tried leaving a corpse inside while the rest of the group comes back and ress then?
The instance will only reset if you dissolve the group, and only NTC and abyss fortresses have those 17h timers because ncsoft wanted to advoid 24/7 safe AP farming.

A lot of misinformation in this thread from some people who just don't like the game very much. I'm glad this game remains a challenge to those who do not like to be spoon fed. If you don't like something, have the balls to stand by your conviction, don't try and dress it up with bullshit.
The gold spammer problem is a problem and I think steps should have been taken sooner. By going /anon last night I got 2 tells and 3 chat messages slipped through, which I blocked. This was in a 5 hour period, while I participating in a fort siege with pretty much everyone else on the server.
I thought WAR was crap, AoC was terrible, Aion is neither of those two things right now. If you are thinking about purchasing this game, then yes it is hard to level, and if you are either the sensitive type, or the type of person who just wants to watch bright colors flash by on the way to end game, you might have issues with Aion and have to resort to complaining in public to make yourself feel a bit better.
