The Daily Grind: What's your side game?
Filed under: Culture, Opinion, The Daily Grind
Ahhh, the art of the side game. A game that you can let sit off on its own while you have another game to play. It's very much like the whipped cream chefs put atop the triple chocolate fudge cake. When you get tired of chocolate, you always have that whipped cream there to cut the taste for you so you can keep enjoying more chocolate.Side games are the whipped cream of the MMO genre. They're always there to go back to just in case you get tired of your current obsession. Then, when you feel that you don't want to spend anymore time with your side game, you jump back into your main game feeling refreshed and ready to play.
But, dear readers of Massively, what game is your side game? What is that one game you can always just leave running on the side, just in-case you need a break? Tell us your favorite side game, and any stories you might have that go along with it, down in the comment box below!

What was once my main is now a favorite alt: World of Warcraft.
I always go back to it when there's nothing else new on the menu (such as this fall) that's appetizing.

Although they aren't MMO's, Adventure Quest and Naruto - Arena. There is also Cabal online.

City of Heroes - It is very easy for me to jump back into and I'm looking forward to the City of Rogues expansion. Also, their seasonal events are always fun like the Halloween event.

My side game isn't an MMO. It's "Roller Coaster Tycoon 3." I just dig those sim-games, but the RCT in particular.

Runes of Magic and WoW. Though I've steeled myself to attempt to never play WoW again, but we'll see what happens if/when when I get super burned out on Aion (my main now).

I have several side games depending on my mood...
Drift City - driving/racing MMO
Ace Online - 'Starfox' MMO
Runes of Magic - F2P WoW clone
Dungeon Fighter - 2D action sidescroller MMO
Battleforge - F2P RTS
Battlefield Heroes - TPS action
S4 League - TPS action
Team Fortress2 - FPS action
I play most of those daily, or at least log in to check in-game mail, auctions etc There are a few more not on the list that I actively play, just less often like Atlantica, DDO, SOTNW, GhostX, Perfect World, Free Realms, UT3 and a few others. I know, I know - I'm a freak for online gaming.
