DDO releases Gianthold adventure pack video
Filed under: Fantasy, Video, Dungeons and Dragons Online, News items, Free-to-play
Since Turbine switched Dungeons and Dragons Online to a free-to-play model, the game has enjoyed a huge surge in popularity. They're keeping up nicely with the large new player base, offering over 20 adventure packs for all different levels in addition to the main game content.
Earlier this week DDO released a video of one of the newest adventure packs, Ruins of Gianthold. "The Stormreaver plots to destroy Stormreach and fulfill an ancient prophecy! Earn the trust of the Gianthold army and confront the Stormreaver and his dragon lieutenants."
This one is a bit more advanced than some others, designed for level 13-14 players, and contains a generous amount of content: 10 adventures, 45 quests and a raid. Like the other adventure packs, you can find it in the DDO Store. Follow along after the jump for a look at the video, or check it out on Turbine's official YouTube channel.

I never did get into pen and paper anything, the thought of randomness (dice)determining my skill at something just never sat well with me.
I tried DDO for a couple weeks, while it was ok the graphics are severly dated, the character artists need to go back to school or give back that cracker jack box and take the environmental artists with them. I put everything on ultra and went dx10 and waited for the awesomeness............and waited........and waited, the result of everything maxed was circa 2003 graphics and detail. to be truthfull i was anticipating crysis style intensity, never happened.
The combat was ok, but again, seeing those dice rolls in that window really turned me off, and i refuse to kill 20,000 of anything to get a pos item from a slayer quest. Wasted one month of vip cash but oh well, i had to learn the hard way, hype got me....and curiosity.

You realize the game came out almost 4 years ago right? The graphics SHOULD be dated. I think the game looks just fine, minus some of the character model.

Are you sure you like MMOs?
Consider for a moment that this might not be the genre for you.

So...basically you're against a gameplay mechanic that's been in almost every MMO and RPG pretty ever made?

It seems like they're releasing a new module once a week. Turbine is doing a great job with this one.

Actually no, these videos are just highlighting the paid content you can buy and it's all been available since the launch :)
There is a new high level adventure pack coming, they hint for December. After that we aren't sure what the release of content will be like, hopefully a new pack every couple months at least. On the upside druids and half-orcs are coming ;D
For F2P peeps, Gianthold is one of the "MUST HAVE" packs, it's more expensive than the others but it is very large with many quests. As well this is the place to get the various dragon armors, all extremely cool and will last your characters till 20. If your cheap like me, at least pick it up when it goes on sale :p it's for sure worth the cash

You do realize that every system in an MMO is based on random rolls that might or might not be effected by a few outside influences? Even in a game like Spellborn, your hits might seem to be determined by your "aiming" but there are modifiers going on behind the scenes. You can miss a "skilled" shot for any number of reasons.
Hell, LIFE is a random dice roll, but whatev. lol

To forstall argument lets just say their should be more math involved and less to do with "randomly" generated dice rolls. (grin)
However, this game is based on those archaic rules so live and let live, they just wont get my cash.
As for your random life comment, retire at 41 like i did and see how not random life really is. Dont hate :) But ya know.........whatever.

So, more "that guy is level 3, so he beats a level 2. Every time."
There has got to be a certain degree of the random going on because, despite your retire comment, life is....wait for it...wait for it....
....random.
Everything that we can do has a different chance to succeed, some things are just much more likely than others. In a video game, they need something to represent the real, which is the dice roll. There's plenty of math involved, already. Your level 3 might have a 99.999999 percent chance to kick the Hell out of that level 2, but in real life there is always the CHANCE that something odd could happen to allow it to happen differently. Say, a bird flying into your face.
Over and over.
Small chance of it happening, but life is like that.
Now you can tell me how commenting on Massively means you have diverse portfolio, if you need to.

I'm really enjoying DDO. Not sure why that guy up in the comments didnt just go F2P? I've been playing F2P for a week now and have not had to buy one thing from the store and having a blast. I might get an adventure pack though just to see whats up.
