Filed under: Events, real-world, MMO industry, News items
Interplay and Bethesda are continuing to tussle in court over the proposed Fallout MMO, and you may have heard news earlier this week about Interplay's triumph over Bethesda in regards to a preliminary injunction. Well, don't get too excited just yet, because unfortunately it looks like reports got misinterpreted.
Interplay's in-house lawyer jumped in today to correct the rumors that have been flying around for the past few days at various Fallout fansites. Read what he had to say after the jump.

Hey, everybody.
You will not often hear from me, but as Interplay's in-house lawyer I feel the need to set the record straight here...
The Court has not ruled on Bethesda's Motion for Prelminary Injunction. A proposed order was filed with our Opposition to the Motion, but that is not the same as an Order of the Court. The hearing is weeks away. Interplay will issue an official statement if there is a material development that needs to be addressed. Please do not rely on rumor or speculation.
In the meantime, we all appreciate your enthusiasm and support.
Thanks,
Chris
Thanks to Chris for setting everyone straight, and we'll continue to keep an eye out for any news coming from Interplay or Bethesda.

I really hope interplay gets the rights, bethesda does make good games but they do not make them in the spirit of what a fallout game should be. Its kind of like disneyland taking over the Michael Myers series. Just does not ring right.

So basically you want Interplay to squat on the rights forever?

At least Bethesda is a development studio. Interplay is 3 guys and their lawyer.

Too bad interplay is nothing but a shell of itself when it made the Fallout games. I don't think any of the original development team(s) are around that worked on them. And so much has changed within the company that I doubt we will ever get a chance to see a TRUE Fallout MMO.
I am willing to bet whatever company that picks it up and runs with it in the end will end up just making a Fallout style WoW. I hate to say it but since its a proven working formula, a company would have to be well funded and willing to take a risk, to not run with it.

I'm starting to think WoW 'clones' are fast becoming no longer welcomed. I think it would be in their best interest to NOT make it too much like WoW, take the leveling speed maybe and few cool things but a Fallout MMO I think would need to be more open and a place to explore and a place where we could built and actually have an impact on the world, which is certainly not the case with WoW.

if our choices are a Bethesda Fallout MMO or no Fallout MMO, I'd prefer none.
