WRUP: What we are (and aren't) playing edition
Filed under: Massively meta
Pre-WRUP disclaimer: The Star Trek Online screenshot above is unrelated to what any of us are playing this weekend. (Sad but true.) But it is what we all wish we were playing in our heart of hearts -- and the latest game screenshots are just so pretty that who can really fault us for wanting to stare at them again and again?
But now, without further aside, let's get back on-topic and talk about what the Massively team is playing this weekend.
But now, without further aside, let's get back on-topic and talk about what the Massively team is playing this weekend.
- Brendan Drain (@nyphur): I'm sick and in quite a bit of pain but I'm determined to have some fun this weekend. More wormhole piracy is on the agenda in EVE. I'm also tempted to re-subscribe to EverQuest 2 for a month just to check out the Halloween festivities. From what I remember, they're quite fun.
- Brooke Pilley (@Snafzg): Aiming to give Fallen Earth a try. Grinding onward and upward in Aion (still not even 25).
- Eliot Lefebvre: The change in WAR's free trial has convinced me to overcome my apprehension about giving it a fair shake and dive in (despite my continued irritation at some aspects of the game), so that will occupy some of my weekend. I also have some personal writing I want to catch up on during Saturday, and I want to hit the ground running once the new month rolls over. Perhaps I'll also learn to play the bassoon.
- James Egan (@jamesegan):The only MMO I'm actively playing right now is EVE but there's no Halloween in space... where people barely remember Earth... so to my knowledge no holiday events going on there. (CCP where are the Pumpkin Launcher II's!?) For that I'll probably spend some time in Team Fortress 2 to get the new achievements on Harvest... and carve Jack-o-Lanterns in backs with my butterfly knife.
- Kyle Horner (@KyleHorner): I'll be playing some Torchlight this weekend, and probably some Champions Online Blood Moon at some point, if I can get some meaningful time to do it.
- Seraphina Brennan: This weekend is a Halloween party at a friend's house, and then I dunno what I'm going to do after that. Perhaps more Borderlands, or perhaps log onto either Champions Online or grind on Aion. Not sure what yet.
- Tateru Nino (@taterunino): This weekend's all about the work, neglected chores and projects. There's no Halloween here, so that doesn't create a lot of impact. If I get a break, it'll probably be Champions Online, though I don't expect a lot of gaming before Monday.
- Tracey John (@TraceyJohn): I'm playing "Pray That I Don't Have Swine Flu." All I know is that I'm so sick, I can barely move a mouse or thumbstick. But I'm sure as hell gonna try in Fallen Earth and Borderlands. And if I'm feeling better, maybe I'm try scratching (read: sucking) at DJ Hero some more. Happy Halloween, everybody!
- Krystalle Voecks (@Krystalle): Happy Halloween! My favorite time of the year! Planning on getting some time in playing Fallen Earth slaying the infected and checking out my shiny new mask. However, I'm also starting to miss EVE Online again, so I'll probably pop in and see what happened with all those hundreds of various buy orders I put in before I jumped games.

Funny enough, I tried to play EQ2 again this week, and found that for all the "WoW"izing it has done, it has still failed to take the most fun aspect of WoW.
The feel of Combat. I truly feel like I'm taking far too long in fights in EQ2, hitting every one of my 20 buttons just to win one fight. I prefer WoW style, 2 or 3 buttons and boom its dead. Provided I chose the right target and didn't get crushed by 5 other adds. Anyway, I digress.
So, I decided to start playing AoC again. I'm really enjoying it right now, the game really is fun in many aspects. But like you guys showed above, I'm salivating over these pics of STO. Wishing it was 2010 already so I can be swept up by 3 major titles. STO, FFXIV, and STOR. Sleeper hit I predict will be Heroes of Telara, hopefully that hits next year as well. Of course, then I'll be swamped with too many mmo's to play(provided they live up to their hype, and we know how that goes lately) and won't have enough time to enjoy them.
Guess that's what the next 5 years will be for. Happy Halloween!

More Borderlands, Demon's Souls, and Uncharted 2 for me.... for now.
Dragon Age is almost here and all that stuff is getting pushed aside!

L4D 2 demo, Assiagans Creed (on computer, bad graphics engine port) are my two games of choice right now. I tried CO and FE this week and both seem dull to me. FE is way to buggy and just feels sloppy and looks like a 3D flash game, plays like it to.
CO is just way to stylized for my tastes, and it is a lot of the same, which really may be why I do not like MMOs anymore. WoW after BC ruined by fun, I was a raider and loved the gear/challenge. Now the game is just lolface easy (well way more so then it once was) which is disappointing.

You can't play Champions Online on the weekends anyway, for the third weekend in a row its server is down...............again.

All hopped up on antibiotics and getting over the plague, so I'll be grinding mobs to level my immune system. Seems like I'll also be spending the entire weekend patching CO, carebearing it up in Eve, and probably also having my tender n00b buns handed to be on a silver platter in League of Legends.
Torchlight calls, but my sense of financial responsibility told it to call back sometime next week.

I'm sure you probably already know, but just in case you don't - there's a free demo of Torchlight available to try:

Aion for me; grinding, crafting, trying not to crash when there are more than 12 players around me.

Torchlight is a great game. Having a lot of fun with it! Really glad it was only 20 bucks, made it an easy decision to try... and I wasn't disappointed.

After the 'srsbzns' of Aion, I'm having an absolute ball playing Torchlight, Borderlands, and WoW.
This weekend is *fun* gaming weekend for me, and none of those three are disappointing in that regard.
Torchlight is exceptional, and I would've happily paid more for the experience - gg Runic Games. (Wish there was a coop option but ah well..)
Borderlands on the PC is an awfully sloppy console port, but once you fiddle around with the vsync, FOV, and other options in the ini's, it's a real blast as well.
