Reakktor Media financial woes resolved, full speed ahead for Black Prophecy
Filed under: Sci-fi, MMO industry, Legal, Black Prophecy

Those following the news surrounding development of sci-fi MMO Black Prophecy from Reakktor Media know there's been a significant hurdle to this title seeing the light of day -- the issue of insolvency. When parent company 10Tacle filed for insolvency, this adversely impacted subsidiary Reakktor Media and threatened continued development of Black Prophecy, which Reakktor addressed in an interview with Massively in April.
It was announced today that their restructuring plan has been successful, and that their insolvency plan saved the jobs of all 36 employees at the company. Even better, Black Prophecy is on track for a release next year, according to the press statement released by the HERMANN law firm which oversaw the insolvency proceedings.
The firm's Rainer M. Bähr was appointed insolvency administrator and permitted Reakktor's business operations to continue through the legal proceedings, so development on Black Prophecy wasn't halted. Their statement also credits Reakktor Media CEO Kirk Lenke for steering the company through difficult times and the Reakktor team for their efforts throughout the situation. From what we've gathered from the release and a brief follow-up with Reakktor, it seems the dark clouds which hung over the game and its development have cleared.
Congratulations to Reakktor from Massively, we're looking forward to seeing more of Black Prophecy in the coming months!

Woo hoo! Now comes the competition. STO, Jumpgate and Black Prophecy. Let's see how this all plays out. BP has supposedly been ready to go to beta since just before 10Tacle went bye bye. Jumpgate was supposed to ne released beginning of the summer. And STO is due in Feb.
Woo Hoo for space games.

i dont really look forward to STO anymore, the speed of ships seems off, and i hate the fact that your piloting from the distant third person, would have preferred a bridge view instead

Yeah, me too.
I'm excited for BP, the screen captures make it look so beautiful (even more than EVE) while STO & JG:E look OK but no where near as pretty.

STO might be good, but Cryptic has yet to impress me enough to try anything longer then a month or two. Thier inability to dangle the right carrots at the right times in CO and create a lasting and meaningful end game will keep me from trying STO for the first few months.
As for Black Prophecy, I am excited about this title. The artistic approach and style is a big grab for me, along with the background and concepts for the factions and design. What I am not well versed in is the gameplay itself. So Black Prophecy is still a wildcard, but something I hope will suprise us in the end. We need a good space sim and something more twitch based to compete with EvE.
