Warhammer Online's endless trial now available

The endless trial has arrived in the land of Warhammer Online, and it's quite the offer. Of course, we've reported on the actual trial before but as of today (post-maintenance) it's officially enacted within the game. So if you've been waiting to go back and check things out but didn't feel like re-subbing or somehow missed out on all the excitement of the game's launch last year, then now is the perfect time to get in and take a look. If you're not sure what the heck this whole "endless trial" thing is all about, here's a handy official FAQ to peruse.

We think it's a good if not bold concept, especially considering players only have to download 1gig of data before the game will dynamically stream the rest as they play. Hopefully it works out for Mythic, who've been putting much blood, sweat and tears in trying to improve perception since its heady launch days.

I dunno man. I'm one of the few people who actually like Vanguard and I'm pretty sure there are very few things that could turn it around for Vanguard at this point.

I really doubt that you're one of the few who likes (or would like) Vanguard, it's just that so few people are willing to try it to even see. The game is wonderful, and it's not even niche, but I can't even convince my friends to download the trial. I don't know what makes the game so unwanted, but it sucks because it's so fun to play.

Yes, only for US. I downloaded it yesterday and the 1st impression was very good! This unlimited trial was a great ideia, especially for casual gamers. There were plenty of players going around the start zone.

The unlimited trial is a three edged sword

The first edge is that it gets people into the newbie areas, I'm not sure how sparsely populated their newbie areas are but I know I started a new char in WoW quite some time ago and it was so depressing I was like the only person there, so it at the very least fills the psychological aspect that assures new players the game is popular and full of interesting people even if they are "ten cappers"

The second edge is that it does give people a wonderful opportunity to explore the world, kick the tires and what have you. Run around get their friends to try it out and not worry about their trial expiring before their friend gets around to trying it, which is nice.

The third edge is simply that it prevents the people who would and could and otherwise do start a ten day trial and power themselves to the levelcap, I'm not sure how easy it is to level in Warhammer at the moment as I have never tried it but I have played many games where if you know what to do you can hit the level cap in under a week.

Compared to the previous ten day trial this one is nowhere near as good. You're locked into Nordland, which a RvR objective has been removed from. It may be endless but has become very limited to what was previously offered.

I can't make any sense out of that FAQ.

1) Does this mean that those of us who used to subscribe can log in, too, as long as we only use level 1-11 characters, or would we have to start a new account to be F2P?

2) In the Nordland/Norsica area, can we queue for scenarios? Or are we restricted to single player quests, open quests, and open RvR? If we can queue for scenarios, are we restricted to Nordenwatch only?

3) We're restricted to character levels 1-11, I understand. What's the maximum renown rank? 0? 11? 60?

4) Am I correct in guessing that endless-trial accounts can't leave the newbie guild and join full-subscriber guilds?

5) Am I correct in guessing that when you reach level 11 you stop earning XP?

6) Which servers ARE the ones that permit endless trial characters?

1. No, we can't. Have to make a new account

2. You can que for any scenario in T1, just restricted to the Nordland/ Norsca zones.

3. If you mean for trial users it is 11 as well

4. Haven't checked that out yet, I know you could join any guild on the old trial

I like it, DDO is already being immitated. Definitley a good sign, and likely the end of the prevalence of monthly fees. Long overdue, since they don't deliver the quality of content which would justify a 1/4 retail price continual charge.
