One Shots: A look at Allods
Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, One Shots, Allods Online
With not just one, but two rounds of Allods Online beta keys flying off of our Massively Codes site, we figured it would be a matter of time before we started to see some images from this interesting F2P game currently in beta. Today's image comes to us from Pingles, who said they've cleared the Allods Online players to send in their images to us. He writes in: So far the Allods beta is going great and we have their permission to submit screenshots! My player Pingles has just reached his capital town and I'm very impressed by both the design and the quality of the artwork. Thanks for sharing with us! Hopefully we'll see more as people get in there and check it out.
If you've actually read this far, it means you must like One Shots, so why not send in some screenshots from your MMO gaming? We need lots more screenshot love, and you're the best ones to help us out. Just grab screenshots from your favorite MMO and send it to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name and a quick description. We'll showcase the screenshot and give you the credit for sending it along. You know you want to!

I made it all the way to the 5th quest that told me to go kill 15 snakes/deer/cats/crabs before jumping off a cliff and logging out. Anyone make it farther than I did?

I reached level 10 this morning with a full group.
Combat/XP is hilariously slow if you solo.
Not too shabby for a F2P, certainly more enjoyable than any Korean grinder.
Overall, these quest grinders are a dime a dozen and need to DIAF. For the Love of God, bring back PvE mechanics from EQ and DAoC. Outdoor hunting, group XP, camps and pulling, CC strats, etc. Quest grinding is absolutely retarded. Give me some epic quests and THAT'S IT.

I am enjoying it but I am looking forward to seeing more of the world. The starting area I am in is a city and I am looking forward to getting into some wilderness.
This is also the first game in a long time where I am looking forward to PvP. While the ship-to-ship stuff seems a bit gimmicky it is also pretty unique looking.

I laughed my way through combat situations because a) it takes forever and b) the translations from Russian describing the spells were wonderfully nonsensical/poorly translated, at least for the class that I chose. I could never tell what I was doing so I just pushed buttons until whatever I was fighting finally died, chuckling the whole time.
Then I uninstalled it at around level 4 or 5 and played something else. Very pretty game, but not my cup of tea.

It has a gorgeous graphics engine.. it really is upping the bar when it comes to the look of free to play MMOs.
I played several classes but ended up running a Warden to level 6, leaving the newbie island at around level 5.
This is an early English beta and you can tell they still need to polish up a lot. I doubt they even have all of the variables in place yet that make the weapons and spells function properly. Every class pretty much just wacks at stuff until it dies right now. So.. save those complaints for a later date. This version of the beta was released as more of a shell just to get some interest and early feedback.
When I logged out last night I was just beginning to look at some of the crafting mechanics. I chose tailoring since it was the first trainer I bumped into. I've never seen a crafting system like this one, its almost like a mini-game with a little gambling thrown in. I'll need to mess with that some more tonight.

Yes, I suppose I shouldn't have expected a fully completed game when I signed up for a beta. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Perhaps I'll reinstall and wait a month or so for a more mature version.

I'm liking it quite a lot so far, it easily de-thrones Runes of Magic from the top of the F2P hill - very polished (translations notwithstanding, RoM was worse at this stage) sharper graphics and a few more innovations than other MMOs have shown lately.
Looking forward to more Allods coverage here if the writers can manage to tear themselves away from Eve online and City of Heroes for a minute or two.
