ReSubbed Episode 1: Asheron's Call
Filed under: Fantasy, Video, Asheron's Call, Opinion, Humor, ReSubbed

At this point in time, we probably have you intrigued enough to read this paragraph. You're wondering what this new column is, aren't you? Well, wonder no further, dear readers, as you're looking at the second ever weekly Massively video feature -- ReSubbed.
What's this show all about? Simple -- take willing saps, er, participants, and subject them to a random MMO each week while recording the insanity. It's a preview, a review, a revisit, and a drunken raid all recorded live, hosted by Seraphina Brennan. We go inside the game so you don't have to. Plus, you can laugh at our misfortune. What could be better?
This week on ReSubbed, Sera has recruited Kyle Horner as her wing man as she subjects him to Asheron's Call in honor of the game's 10th anniversary. What happens when Kyle figures out that all of his emotes are bound to the keys of the keyboard? Check it out, right after the break.
(The management would like us to inform you that ReSubbed does contain one instance of profanity this week. So, be warned, we're slightly NSFW.)

not bad. i enjoyed looking back on this game. i actually thought about re-subbing for a sec but glad you did it for me since i have too many current subs...btw please fix the sound next time..the main speakers voice was low and the secondary was loud. so i had to continually adjust volume up and down..annoying

Next episode will have a new and improved recording function that this episode did not have.
Trust me. It annoys me just as much because I couldn't do anything about it this episode. I learned... oh did I learn.

Well thank you. Good to know. ^_^ Also, don't worry, any and all negativity is chiefly distributed by myself onto myself. I dwell on things when they don't play out right until I make them work perfectly. :3

I really enjoyed this. I had a lot of good times in AC, played the beta and for a while at release. Hearing the sounds again brought a smile to my face. :)

Wow. I remember playing this game back in the day. I was like 14 and had no attention span, so I never got far, but this made me smile none-the-less. I've dabbled in a lot of MMOs, so this series will probably continue to bring back fond memories. :P
Kudos for doing this!

This is nice. Here's suggestion if you dont mind, you two are fun to listen to but i would have liked a little less idle chatter and more gameplay or exploration. Its a great way to show us younger folk just what we have missed and i dont think it does justice to AC to just stand arround. Add humor to the equation and youve got a win :)
Looking forward to see what you have prepared for next week.

Those graphics are only slightly worse than Darkfall!

Yay, love pieces like this. I tend to go back to older games and relive them every once in awhile, and AC might be next... They've done a lot of character creation changes since I last played.

Balance your audio levels... one of you is loud as hell and the other can't be heard, also the game volume is way too high.

I'm very glad you did Asheron's Call as the first game.
This was THE game that introduced me to MMOs and I had a subscription for....geeze... I think 6 or 7 years.
I really really wish that modern day MMOs would take more from Asheron's Call. If Turbine rereleased Asheron's Call with modern graphics, I swear I would be in the front of the line to preorder the uber collector's edition, without hesitation.

I like this new thingie :) It was funny, I started it and was listening to it while working, heard the buff sound and suddenly all flash back style alt tabbed back in expecting to dodge a incoming lightning bolt 7 hehehe. I miss ac, I just cant take the graphics. Gameplay is a freaking blast though!

Good effort! Started of a bit crap - too much goofing around - but finished well. Some good observations towards the end.
I played AC from 2000 to 2005 and have just resubbed. Early days yet - still getting used to the interface - and I think it's this that is the biggest hurdle to get over after playing newer MMOs. All the conveniences they offer are hard to lose (I've not installed Decal... yet) and the lack of decent movement controls and mouselook is a real pain.
But, there's so much that AC offers that is missing from newer MMOs - they're all too streamlined, mass appeal products. The open world, original setting and freeform character development model really make AC worth revisiting. I only resubbed for a 10th anniversary nostalgia trip, but I think I may stay a bit longer. And it's just about playable on my netbook too, unlike any modern MMO - bonus!

I have to say i like the format of this piece brennan, if done properly (this one was nicely done) . This format would be a big plus on this site. Looking forward to the other contributors doing something similar from time to time.
Now go visit the rabbit.

Hmm, I'm getting problems with the video: a giant advert is covering the feed and not moving away.

If it doesnt go away just click the screen to be taken to the video hosting site. I had the same thing and it was fine watching it that way, though not sure if youre at work etc....

I cry a little every time I see footage of AC and think about how the AC community helped kill AC2 because it didn't follow that, ugh.
Hey but in '00 AC and I were really tight, AC2 I thought was a much better MMO on pretty much every front.
