CCP Games drops more details on EVE's new mission arcs for pirate factions
Filed under: Sci-fi, EVE Online, Game mechanics, Quests, PvE
We recently wrote a bit about the new PvE content coming to EVE Online in the Dominion expansion -- Epic Mission Arcs for the Angel Cartel and Guristas pirate factions where your speed will help you survive. Now CCP Games has dropped more info on these branching pirate missions; the Guristas arc is called "Smash and Grab" while the Angel Cartel arc is "Angel Sound". A dev blog written by CCP Jasonitas walks readers through the standings requirements -- if your Angel Cartel standings are horrible but you have decent standings with either the Minmatar or Amarr, you can still run the Angel arc. Likewise with the Guristas, your Caldari or Gallente faction standings will let you embark on the Guristas pirate arc. In some respects, these arcs will open up pirate faction mission running for many players, given that completion of an arc will impart a 30% standings gain towards that faction. Players have long wanted a way to repair their negative standings towards New Eden's pirate factions and this seems to be the first step towards that. Still, that standings gain won't benefit players who are particularly loathed by a given pirate faction unless the arcs can be repeated some months down the line as with standard Epic Mission Arcs.
If you want to learn more about the new content, give "Epic Pirates Use Speed Boats" a read. It will also help you figure out which mission agents and locations will be an ideal starting point if you're thinking of trying these out in Dominion.
Just for the sake of curiosity, empire mission runners -- will these pirate mission arcs be enough to entice you out into 0.0 for a different take on PvE? And for those readers who already have good standings with the Angel Cartel or Guristas -- does it surprise you that pirate Epic Mission Arcs are being made so accessible to everyone else?

If they really designed it for Interceptors... I don't see why mission runners wouldn't at least try it. Not like they're going to lose a lot in the process. Add in some possible faction loot and I'd say it's worthwhile.

Mission runners have probably never bothered to learn to fly Interceptors - Caldari Navy Ravens are all they need.

What's ironic is I'm actually training to fly an interceptor as a newbie, more for the hell of it than any real use I can see, since my corp runs missions in empire.
I don't really see the point in 0.0 missions except giving the pirates more people to shoot at.

Is a mission runner someone who just does missions constantly? If so, is this a bad thing? I only just started Eve this past weekend so I know nothing.

Yep, that's what it means. Not a bad thing at all, and probably the most profitable thing in the game right now, but some people find it boring, and some players that live in 0.0 like to mock "carebears."

Mission running is not bad. In fact, it's a good thing to do - you can earn massive amounts of money with the loot and salvage. If you can take on the missions, that is. L4's can be very challenging for a solo player, while L2's and L1's have ship restrictions and don't give that much reward. I prefer mining myself - it might not earn one as much money as doing missions, but the profit is there nonetheless, and asteroids don't shoot back (though asteroid belt pirate NPCs do warp in from time to time).

Mission running? Most proftiable? Noo.. most accesible way of making money? Yes but not most profitable.

In a risk/ rewards relativity it is one of the most profitable, also missions are quite easy not requiring massive travel if you know how to pick up your agents.

A dev has answered about repeating pirate epic arcs (in the very same thread, actually); all epic arcs, whether pirate or not, can be run again every 3 months.
