LFG in Call of Duty?

Well, it's a possibility, at any rate. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, was officially released November 10th with what the LA Times described as a "Hollywood-scale launch". The launch expenses turned out to be money well spent, as the game had generated $550 million in sales as of last Saturday. Fans lined up days in advance to pick up their copy of Modern Warfare 2, complete with free night vision goggles.

While this was all very nice for Activision Blizzard, it was the end of the article that really got MMO fans interested: "One person close to the company said it also was considering adapting Call of Duty as a massively multi-player online world. The genre, in which Activision's Blizzard Entertainment subsidiary is a leader, requires huge upfront investments but can be very profitable as players pay a monthly subscription fee."

The possibility of a Call of Duty MMO is an exciting one for a very large group of gamers, and Blizzard is certain to be aware of that. We will definitely be keeping an eye out at Massively for more news on this possibility.

COD online Blizzards new MMO.

That would make sense, there is no FPS mmo besides planetside and it would not directly compete with WOW.

No, Blizzard has stated the mmo they are working on is an entirely new IP altogether. Besides, I’d trust Blizzard to make a good RPG or strategy game, but an fps? I’d much rather lead that to infinity ward.

I would love that. I have been up late nights playing Modern Warfare 2! I want to find out if my progress is tracked on steam or my game install... I have had to do windows in the past and lost all my progress :( that sucked.

MW2 stores everything in the Steam cloud, so no local save file as far as I know.

They've been spinning this idea of a CoD MMO since CoD4's success. Never gonna work.

The changes they made to this product worry me a bit as far as how they would do an MMO.

I think we have seen that just about an IP can be ruined by an MMO. I will play wait-and-see on this one.

I dont' see the big deal about Modern Warfare 2. I watch my kid play it. Online, no one is driving around in tanks or flying helicopters or driving over people in Humvees.

I'll stick with Quake Wars. Now that would be a nice MMORPG.

So they cut out a whole lot of the things any traditional PC FPS has, then are thinking of developing an MMO (a gametype almost totally associated with the PC!) out of it?

....wow.

And secondly, how much would people ACTUALLY play this? CoD, especially MW, has never really been about massive battlefields; It's always been the small teams, the squad combat.

...which sounds like guild wars. PvP and PvE both having small group sizes, and pve having a definite beginning and end of the story. At that point, isn't it just glorified coop with 5-8 players instead of 2, and pvp that's similar to CoD now?

plus, they'd HAVE to have headshots in - and calculating headshots is actually a decent-sized problem, there's a reason Global Agenda is going for one hitbox only - it cuts down on some of the calculations the server has to do to determine where the shot hit.

Even though I plan to never buy Modern Warfare 2 for the PC, you're damn right I'd snap an MMO CoD up the second it hit store shelves! Move over Planetside 2, Activision is taking over here.

MW2 series as an MMO? It would fail miserably. I detest steam and i still bought it because i liked the series, however, they improved nothing but the eye candy so this will be the last purchase for me in the series. AI blows, scripted missions, support blows, even fantastic graphics cant save it.

Hell they even have the kiddy sidearm draw to help those wannabe heros feel like they can do something. All in all i think i will barely get my money out of it but again its the last in the series i will waste my money on, and being coupled with steam is a flat fail.

If you put the percentages into play and check the mw2 forums you will see the mw2 community overall isnt pleased with many aspects, but you take a chance on the hype from time to time. They get their sales numbers this time, but they will be one short on their next release if there is one.

CoD is essentially already an MMO with a subscription fee. Treyarch and Infinity Wards production cycles prove it. Much like EA's Madden franchise. $60.00 for a roster update. Ha!

I like the game, but I would pass if I had to pay for it monthly.
