CCP Games alters plans for EVE's capital ships in Dominion expansion
Filed under: Sci-fi, EVE Online, Expansions, Game mechanics, PvP

The EVE Online developers have announced that some of their proposed changes to capital ships will not deploy with the Dominion expansion as originally planned. This may come as good news to some of EVE's supercarrier (formerly "mothership") pilots who've expressed no small amount of dissatisfaction at how their ships were slated to be changed. With the supercarrier changes not going through, this also means that the fighter bombers -- anti-capital ship drones intended to bathe EVE's largest ships in waves of torpedo explosions -- will not arrive on December 1 with Dominion.
Changes to other capital ship weapons systems like XL Turrets, however, are another matter entirely. They're discussed at length in a dev blog from CCP Nozh titled "Capital Ships in Dominion" as are the new Citadel Cruise Missile Launchers intended to be a long range weapon system.
Nozh also explains how the titan is evolving away from an area-of-effect beast to a ship class that condenses that destructive potential into a death ray of sorts, focused on a single target at a time. In addition, he discusses how titans will receive a 100% damage bonus to those aforementioned XL Turrets and Citadel Launchers along with a substantial boost to hit points.
As with any major changes to the game, particularly when capital ships are involved, the page count of comments on the dev blog keeps climbing.

I think I saw Goon and IT members agreeing on something in that thread... Is this the end times?
And, it should be fairly obvious how the player base feels, after reading just a few pages of that thread.

Your article totally glosses over the OUTRAGE that is occuring at these changes and the fact that a number of changes are being made based on flawed assumption - such as requiring target painters to be used due to the XL-turret changes, except that the targets the turrets are supposed to engage are IMMUNE to target painters..
Please got back and REDO this article properly. Myabe mention that at page 30(where I am reading up to) - there is still no official CCP response other then deleting posts.

Outside of the Planet and Background space changes I am liking Dominion less and less with all these cop-outs to whiners they are making. CCP needs to "harden the f_ck up" and stick to their guns.
Capital changes being delayed and then the 0.0 upkeep costs reduced to near nothing. Way to go CCP in changing everything yet changing nothing all the same with all the concessions you keep on making to people who want to keep the status quo.

Can you name a single person who wants to keep the status quo in regards to motherships?

Look at it this way, they tried , they failed, the "player base" which mostly consists of the very vocal 0.0 pilots and which this expansion affects the most don't like the changes and if there is anyone to listen to i'd say they are the ones, it's not like some random alliance is going to just hop in and get free space due to the fact that no one can afford to keep it running in their sovereign space. These guys fought and earned their space I think they deserve a say in what goes into the patch that's going to change the runnings of sovereignty and I think CCP is right to listen to them.

You might want to mention that 10s of pages have been deleted, and the player outrage is enormous.
CCP devs showed a complete lack of understanding about basic game mechanics, as well as how players fly and fight in capital ships.
The community was absolutely blindsided with these last minute changes and cancellations, despite months of testing and the overwhelming consensus that the changes were a good thing.

The complaining is worse than the NPC corp tax whine thread

The thing is that the alliances HAD accepted the upkeep and that they might need to work at it a little more to hold territory etc... And the NPC tax would try to get people to engage more. These changes just seem to make 0 sense. For a corp member in a corp that is looking to move to 0.0 and join under one of the bigger alliances, this just seems bad all around...
