Nightwing leaps into DC Universe Online
Filed under: Super-hero, New titles, News items, DC Universe Online
Sony Online Entertainment's newest character reveal for DC Universe Online happens to be the ex-boy wonder himself, Nightwing. No longer the young man fighting at the dark knight's side, Dick Grayson is capable of some incredible feats of athleticism, some even more impressive than Batman's repertoire. He's also known to fight alongside the Teen Titans, and it's nice to see them standing with him in these new screens. All-in-all there are nine screens for you to check out.
There's a long list of heroes and villains from the DC universe to reveal, giving us cause to question whether we'll ever see an end to these announcements. It's not that we're uninterested in seeing the in-game counterparts of these classic characters -- we're simply ready to see more of the actual game itself. Chris Cao did recently answer some fan questions, which was a great start. Here's hoping 2010 plays host to all sorts of awesome DC Universe Online information.

You can wear all the black you want, sonny boy, but you’ll always be batman’s lame ten-year old sidekick who wore green short shorts. No wonder he’s stuck at the kid’s table with the teen titans lol.

Sadly, when I looked at this picture, the first thought in my head wasn't, "Ooooh, Nightwing!" It was more, "Ooooh, they have Raven in the game and she looks badass!"
Sorry Nightwing.

Is it my imagination, or do the environments look like they're from City of Heroes (With nice shadows, ala Going rogue) and the character styles from Champions Online?

Nightwing was my favorite character of all time. Simply the coolest.

Blasphemy! How dare someone talk badly about the Nightwing and doubt his greatness ;) Hopefully, DCUO will put Nightwing under Titans and not Teen Titans since that was so 1980s. I wonder if you will be able to align yourself with different groups or characters such as Titans or The Flash?

I really don't get their advertising... it's like they're trying to get us to watch a movie. So this one NPC is in, that's great. NPC's aren't hard to make. I'd feel a bit ripped off if Nightwing wasn't in. It'd be nice to know what the gameplay is, the various systems, etc. I love Nightwing as much as the next guy, but hearing about NPC's isn't all that fascinating.

Agreed. I'm interested in the game . . . I guess. Maybe. It's hard to say, since all they've really released are shiny screenshots of NPCs. Yay.

In DCUO do you get to make your own character? It doesn't seem like it from their marketing.

I don't know, not being a follower of the game so far. To be a MMO, they'd need to have customization so I'd assume that it means custom characters, but that means that all the unveiled existing characters would only be Quest -giving NPCs/Sidekicks.

Soooo... from the marketing at DCUO, assuming that they're emphasizing what they feel are the strengths of their game (because to do otherwise is rather silly, no?), I can draw the conclusion that the game will consist of one unending string of NPC reveals. From all appearances, we get to roll up fanboy conventioneers who get to run along behind marquee DC heroes and watch them do their stuff.
Do we get bonus XP for clapping loudly?

No that would be for getting good screen shots of the NPC's greatness.

I was kinda of hopping for this game to follow DCU goings on right now. Nightwing as Batman, and Bruce Wayne's son as Robin, the aftermath of Darkest Night with the Lantern Crops, and the New Krypton storyline.

Ok so, someone explain to me if Grayson is Nightwing in this DC timeline. Then who the hell is Robin right now, because we know he is in it.

Probably Tim Drake, I'm guessing (unless they've already revealed him to be Red Robin in the game or something)
