The Daily Grind: I've been meaning to tell you...
Filed under: Culture, Opinion, The Daily Grind, Humor

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day if you're in the United States, which makes it special. (If you live in the rest of the world, tomorrow is Thursday and not particularly special, but bear with us.) It's the start of a season devoted to good feelings and positive thoughts, as well as voracious consumerism, so it's best to start things off on the right foot. Start off by clearing the air and getting everything off your chest, out into the open. Today, we're asking you: what level is your blood elf paladin?
Okay, that sort of question usually goes onto our sister site, but the message is there. What are your MMO secrets? Do you secretly adore Champions Online but don't tell your friends on City of Heroes because you're afraid of their reaction? Have you stuck with a game you hated because a friend was playing it and you didn't want to leave them by themselves? Even if it's something as mundane as hating Runes of Magic, today, the floor is open for you to vent whatever you just normally won't share. And then, tomorrow, we can feast with a clear conscience. (Unless you're not in the US, again, but maybe you can start up a regular feast day on Thursdays.)

OK, here I go...
Well...
Hi, I'm GaaaaaH, and even though I troll my friends about still playing WAR I'd still go back to playing it if the monthly fee was less.

Like most of you, I've been playing mmorpgs for many moons. I've run the friendship gambit a bunch. What I've gathered is this...
Your friends in video games are just that, friends in a video game. They will never help you move, or come over and watch a movie. When the day is done, your entire friendship is centered around the game. If you quit the game, you quit the friendship. Now I'm sure there are exceptions to that rule, but for the most part, it's correct.
Recently, I asked myself about the importance of being "loyal" to a game. I remember running around a home city (pick any specific game) bored to death, then, after many years, it finally hit me. I'm paying this game manufacturer to entertain me, and it's failing. That's not my fault. So now, I'm basically a subscription hopper. I'll play what entertains me, I'll meet people, and be nice, and realize that I'll most likely never get to have a beer with them.
What I finally realized is (and don't kid yourself) no one misses you after your gone, but the experiences I get along the way, they make me a more 'worldly' person.
Cheers!

I might have needed to make it clear, but these are my RL friends that I was talking about.

Blood elf paladins outnumber the entire Alliance on my server. So let's not go there..
I'm sick to death of WoW, but my friends won't leave it to even try another MMO. So here I am, still in WoW. /sigh

Seconded.
I'm getting so tired of WoW, but there's just nothing else my friends will play.

I had to give up on my friends and online video games. I use to try and coordinate servers with them and everything but they would always give up on the new game and go back to WoW within the first few weeks. So they are now dead to me.

I really wish there was a free to play anime game that was comparable to WoW. It seems like they all have such massive flaws none of them are good enough.
Aion was fun but even though I played original EQ and Lineage 2, I think the grind should be cut in half.
WoW is fun but I don't feel like the expansions are adding new gaming systems, just more of what is already available.

EvE is the closet game for me. None of my friends play it, though they've all tried it at one point or another.
I went back to WoW a while back, but left again not long after, and I played Aion longer than I would have otherwise for friends, though we've all stopped playing both MMOs now.
Come to think of it, I think MMOs in general might be a closet thing for me. I don't think any of my friends are playing any MMOs anymore (they think in many ways MMOs have degraded since the days of Everquest and I can't disagree). They're into Left for Dead 2, Borderlands (great game), and single-player RPGs like Dragon Age: Origins.

*sigh*
Hi, I'm Descender, and my Blood Elf Paladin is level 80. He was my first character a year and a half ago. There is some light in that statement, however, because he's a HEALER. I now have a level 74 Deader Warrior up and coming, with a Deader DK planned to try Frost Tanking, and a level 60 Bear Tank waiting to move forward.
I.... tank a lot.
I'm also getting sick of WoW, but what I want, what I REAAAAAALLY want, is a good Sci-fi MMO that isn't EVE. Played EVE, loved it for about 3 months, then kinda missed my friends who hung around WoW. So I'm drooling over STO, waiting to see if I get into the Beta, and hanging on to some kind of hope until February.
... Until Cataclysm drops, then I'm rolling a Goblin Rogue.

Here we go!
I'm Coldalarm (not the name of any of my chars) and I play WoW. And I'm bored to tears of it, yet I can't drop it. I've lost the will/dedication to play anything else (except Mass Effect and maybe the odd other game), and I can't find anything free that's decent. I enjoyed Free Realms I guess, and didn't mind Runes of Magic, but they have their flaws.
Been trying to find something decent, and I've not succeeded. I won't try Everquest 1 or 2 because I've heard they can be *very* addictive. I'm holding out for Cataclysm but I doubt I'll be playing by then.
:(

I have an inner anger about Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. It could and should of been the best MMORPG to date..but all the stupid flaws it had...It just makes me angry how amazing it could have been and didn't live up to itself.

I don't understand the excuse "my friends won't play anything else". uh... there's tons of people in other games willing to make new friends. I mean, unless they are RL people you see all the time I can understand, but if not, go make new ones.

(because I don't have a BE Pally). Yeah! It's true. Does a human pally count?

Hi my name is Rich and I am in a loveless abusive relationship.
My mistress is cruel and heartless and very cunning. She teases me along, gets me worked up then when the satisfaction is achieved she keeps stringing me along just enough so I don't stray. On those few occasions where I do stray, the others are not as skilled in the abuse and the enjoyment doesn't for long.
WoW I will replace you one day, just you watch, something better, prettier and younger will come along and have your skills, but until then I am reluctantly yours.
:P

Well...
I have a lv 27 B'elf Pally.
I liked Champions Online despite all it's faults.
And those who say "Microtransactions are the way of the future," are full of evil.
...though the latter really isn't anything new, since I voice that anyways quite often. :)

Hi, I'm Vladimir, and my WoW account got hacked and probably all my stuff is either trashed or deleted, but I'm so bored with it that I haven't bothered to pester Blizz customer support, even though many of my friends are still playing it.
