Massively's Black Friday MMO sales guide
Filed under: Events, real-world, News items
The holidays are officially here (if you're a retail chain, then they've been here for about a month) and so it's time to start looking for deals to give to either your MMO-playing loved ones or, well, yourself! Shopping can be a pretty big hassle, especially if you're not accustomed to hunting for the best deals. So, we've gone and outlined the season's new releases, as well as some places you can hope to find sales in the coming weeks.
EVE Dominion
With sovereignty mechanics (IE player captured space mechanics) receiving a substantial overhaul, EVE Online players have a lot to look forward to come December 1st. Dominion won't cost you a single bit of change, but it's the perfect reason to resubscribe for veteran players. Additionally, it's pure added incentive for anyone considering picking the game up for the first time. Read more about Dominion in our in-depth coverage of the free update.
Lord of the Rings Online: Siege of Mirkwood
Be on the lookout for any deals this weekend on Lord of the Rings Online's new expansion set to release on December 1st. The new content offers plenty to players at the price of $20 -- or $30 if you're buying the whole game for the first time. More specifically, Siege of Mirkwood adds a new zone, plenty of new dungeons, another five player levels and the new Skirmish system. You can find out even more about the game via our extensive coverage.
Guild Wars: Eye of the North
NCsoft is offering customers the Eye of the North expansion free when you buy any other Guild Wars campaign -- this includes those who buy the trilogy!
Sony Online Entertainment's Station Cash
We already mentioned it before, but any Station Cash card you redeem until next Sunday at 10pm PST will net you a 25% bonus when the points go towards EverQuest, EverQuest II and Free Realms. Don't miss out SOE players!
Nexon America games
There are lots of games getting Black Friday deals over at Nexon. You'll want to check each game's site to see the specifics, but we can at least point you to each game and let you know the sales dates for each.
Combat Arms - November 27th-30th
Dungeon Fighter Online - Nov. 25th-Dec. 1st
MapleStory - Nov. 27th-30th
Mabinogi - Nov. 26th-30th
Steam
Valve's known for their weekend deals, and we're certain this weekend will be no different. While we can't proclaim to know if any MMOs will be on sale, there's always a good chance at least one or two should be reduced in price. So keep your eyes peeled for any deals.
Amazon
The same goes for Amazon and its yearly Black Friday sales, although at the very least they've got a page where you can be on the lookout for any special deals. Typically, Amazon releases their sales periodically over the course of the day, so this is one you'll have to keep hitting F5 on for a while.
Direct2Drive
While there are no sales at the moment, you may want to keep an eye out for MMO deals on November 27th, just in case. D2D have been known to have some good sales now and again.

For UK customers at least, Steam has Champions Online and Fallen Earth both on sale with 50% off each (£12.49 and £14.97 respectively), and Direct2Drive.co.uk has Champions Online on sale for £12.50.
Also Steam is offering the Lucasarts games pack with 60% sale, which happens to also include a copy of Star Wars Galaxies, in addition to a lot of other great games...

Good prices for the convenience, though with this weekend being free and the standard Amazon.co.uk price for CO only being a few £ more than Steam's "half-price" I think they could have timed it a little better.
I'm hoping Aion pops up one-day as I'm fairly bored (games I would be getting got Xmas listed!) but not keen on the full investment - not counting on it though, as they'll be way ahead of other retailers if they offer a low price now.

I just looked through the newspaper ads too and it seems like this year there are some insanely good deals out there. This is all do, of course, to our wonderful economy. Also, you guys forgot to mention WoW; the original game is going for just $5 in stores this weekend!

I just hope they sell EVE online at discount. I need another account and now seems like the perfect time to buy one.

You miss the 'power of 2' deal they had last month?

Well that's annoying...Eye of the North itself isn't on sale. I have the main campaign and the two other expansions. If I bought the "Game of the Year" edition again, I would get Eye of the North free, and it would still be $10 cheaper than getting Eye of the North by itself. Oh well.

Oneiromancer, you can grab a GW Platinum edition on NewEgg (includes Proph and EotN) for $10 total and just add that to your account to get EoTN (make sure you add, not create a new account). Have to wait for it to arrive, but that is the cheapest I've seen recently and certainly better than the NCSoft Store prices.

The whole Guild Wars pricing ordeal annoys me as well. It's hard to get just the campaigns you need without being owned in price.
Also, Gamestop is selling the Trilogy for $25 this Black Friday. They sell EotN alone for $20, but I don't know if EotN has a Black Friday deal as well.
I plan to head down there and see on Friday because I'm buying Left 4 Dead 2.
Anyways, on Steam Fallen Earth and Champions are 50% off. The gigantic Lucas Arts Premier pack which comes with a ton of awesome games including Star Wars Galaxies Collection is only $50.

For the two of you who care, Newegg has 60-day Age of Conan time cards for $9.99 with free shipping. GoGamer has the Collector's Edition of this game for like, $6, plus another $6 shipping. I think you could also buy the regular edition for $4 on Amazon.
As Wade mentioned, Newegg also has Guild Wars Platinum (Prophecies - the original campaign - and its expansion Eye of the North) for $10 with free shipping. That's an incredible deal, though I do remember the Factions Platinum edition for the same price, and that came with the Mission Pack.
