Warhammer Online announces 1.3.3 patch tests
Filed under: Fantasy, Events, in-game, Patches, Previews, Warhammer Online

It's been a dance of extremes on Warhammer Online of late, mixing up good news and rather unsettling news -- but did you come to the game to bite your nails and be nervous? Or did you start playing to lay waste? Assuming the latter, there's some good news to be had in the near future, as two mass playtests are scheduled to occur within the next week on the public test server, Warpstone. Both are testing features slated for 1.3.3, which implies that this patch is not so far off on the horizon.
Both tests will start at 8 PM EST (that's 5 PM for those of you on the other coast). December 1st will see the test of the War Report, which was explained in the November newsletter to be a new service helping players see what was taking place nearby and jump immediately to the conflict. Two days later, December 3rd will be the kick-off of a mass battle stability test, also featuring the new graphical improvements slated for 1.3.3. The announcement also mentions the possibility of winning an Enslaved Manticore or an Imperial Griffon Mount, although details are not given. Whatever the future holds for Warhammer Online, it's nice to get a chance to test out the new features before they go live, so clear away some room on your schedule next week.

What is one really to think or conclude from this playtest announcement? The patch notes haven't been released yet. I'm hoping for good things.
The game itself is in really good shape now. The major design flaw at the moment is the city invasions happen much, much too often. But other recent changes have been overwhelmingly positive. So I'm looking forward to seeing what is in this new patch.
I keep finding myself drawn back to WAR. There is no current-generation RvR game quite like it, with anywhere near as good PvP. The only thing I sense on the horizon that will focus on RvR is Jumpgate Evolution. But we the public don't know when or if that game will ever be released. So WAR is it. Fortunately, it's lots of fun right now. I'd like to add that the remaining core servers have all indicated med/med during prime time over the last few days.

I've played the unlimited trial to the max on bright wizard and war priest and it was a pleasant surprise. The game has tremendous potencial. No lag whatsoever, fiersome battles with 50 player and more on the screen... It needs expansions to get better and more diverse because it becomes boring after a while. In order to justify a monthy payment, in my opinion, and with the number of mmo's in the market, there has to be more than pvp. Can't see an mmo surviving in the future only from that.

Standby for howling rabid anti-WAR hordes screaming that the game is going to close any day now in...5....4.....3.....2.....1.....

You mean the 'hordes' of players who quit the game, over 500,000 of them? They are long gone. Mythics failures, shutdowns, mergers, and layoffs speak for themselves.
p.s. they are shutting down Dark Crag and Phoenix Throne, leaving only 4 servers left.

Eve and Second Life only have one server. One. I'm fine with games having fewer servers.

Eve does NOT have one server. One universe != one server.

Only difference is a game like EVE was designed to be a one server game, while WAR was not. In fact WAR's servers have always been poor with how little people can be on at a given time which lead to cap and queue. It's really sad that this game has only been out for a year, at one time had 4x the number subs then DAoC did at its peak, but now only has 3 more servers then 8 year old DAoC currently has.

@Dread:
The only thing worse than rabid naysayers, are cliched posters such as yourself.
If you think you're being comical or witty; you're not. If you don't think your post was essentially vapid spam; you're wrong.

Hey, if you want to dance around and pretend that having more than half of your development team laid off isn't a dire sign of things to come I don't particularly care.

After the two months of grinding to 50, for zero end game. I went back to WAR, not on my main account but an endless trial account.
The New User experience is top notch, and the game has come leaps and bounds in only the 2-3 months I have been away.
Not sure if I am ready to reactivate my main, but will definitely be enjoying some of the intense drop in/drop out, no commitment Endless Trial.

I did the same thing. I'll do it again once they release 1.3.3. Not sure if I'll be reactivating my main account or not -- having fun in LotRO atm. The game has improved (IMO) since I subscribed to the game a year ago.

I'm loving the end game in Warhammer right now. I was away for the last 6 months and recently came back to a much improved, fun experience.
Sadly, I am seriously worried for its future. 4 US servers, low pops on the european ones, massive cuts in the dev team and recycled live events make me wonder if I will be playing it much after Christmas. What's the point of fighting hard to get the end game gear if it looks like the server may be a ghost town in a few months?

I'm subbed, but may unsub soon. I'm a longtime player, but for the moment I feel like I've done everything I can do. PvP is still a ton of fun, but without an expansion of some sort, I don't feel like there's a point to me doing it any more.
Bear in mind that I've put hundreds of hours into the game, pushed one character up to R40/RR48, and put another up to R24/RR22. I've ran tons of instances, and really don't have a pressing need to grind for gear any more.
But new players? Give it a try...it's crazy fun.

Ive played Warhammer Online since beta, stopped a few months back. Unless it becomes f2p like DnD it is going to die.

The next time I'm sitting on the toilet I'll just think about Warhammer Online. That'll be more fulfilling than actually playing it.
