Massively's End-of-the-Year Reader's Choice Awards
Filed under: Polls, Opinion, Massively meta

So we've compiled a series of polls (found after the jump) in which you can vote for your favorite games of 2009 in 10 different categories. The poll choices consist of some aspect of games or expansions that launched this year, so don't expect to see older games on these lists. With almost 50 online games launching in 2009, we chose to only include a maximum of 10 for each category.
At the end of the month, we'll compile the results into one post, letting everyone know what the Massively readers think is the best of the best (or worst). So you have plenty of time, but the deadline for votes is December 31st at 11:59pm EST!

Isn't SW:TOR slated to come out in 2010?

I was wondering the same thing but upon further reflection, I'm not sure an official announcement has been made yet.

No, there's been no official announcement to the release date of SW:TOR and the game hasn't even reached a Beta phase of development.
Also, I think Massively's Poll system is flawed. Aion is the first selection in almost every poll and as such the effect of quick selection, it's the most likely choice by anyone.
Notice how it's getting all these specifically "good" awards and yet it's also getting the "Most Disappointing", and that's because people are just selection 1st choice and moving on.
I suggest that in the future for polls such as this that Massively tries and randomizes each individual poll instead of alphabetical order.

A game can be a big dissapointment and still be the best that came out this year :p

Pretty much.
*bitterness towards Aion winning best new MMO* :P
How people enjoy endless grinding as a shemale character, I will never know...

I looked really hard for a game in those polls to fanboi (well, fangirl) over, and came up with nothing. This is probably why I spent 2009 playing games with a few miles on them.

Doesn't Blizzard count as "Best MMO Studio of 2009"?

I was disappointed to not see Free Realms as an option for best Free-to-Play MMO. =(

I am wondering if Free Realms is still considered F2P with the latest changes? And I also wonder why they picked such a cheesy name to begin with... :/

They should rename it to "Not reallly free Realms"

It's curious that Aion is leading so many "best" categories and "biggest disappointment" at the same time.

Not really. It's great and disappointing at the same time. So much potential and so little used presently. It's fun, frustrating, and boring pretty much simultaneously. Here's hoping it gets WAY better.

that's because everyone blindly went down the list and said 'oh, Aion's on this list, lemme vote for that!'

Whats curious is that Alganon isn't anywhere near the top in anything, and the one reward it DESERVES, I.E. the worst game, it can't even get.
Ouch, its so horrible it doesn't even deserve the reward, I bet yall said "sorry, no professionals" to Alganon huh?

With so many people having tried it, a lot of them are going to think it's the best thing since sliced bread and others may find it disappointing. Perhaps those who don't mind the grinding are the folks who clicked 'best' and those who dislike it clicked 'biggest disappointment,' which is pretty logical to me.

It's because there are a good amount playing Aion and so check it, and then ther's a good amount of people who done playing it already and choosing it as a disapointment.
farspace said on 5:02AM 12-29-2009
then there is the people who never played it but figured with those huge wings and stuff it must be lame but me I chose Runes of Magic as the biggest disapointment since it was voted best on everything else lol.
But darn Final Fantasy XIV looks holy incredably awesome graphics, although there is no way I'm playing the fru fru lala land game, but I admit it looks incredable though.
They should of said what game do you hate the most and then at least you could reverse the votes and get something more acruate, maby :) that makes no sense hahaha :)

whoever voted Aion for best launch of 2009 should have their aion account banned.
