BioWare opens the Jedi Consular's class page

Emphasis on non-melee abilities? Check. Robes? Check. Hm, if it weren't for those lightsaber moves, we'd almost have to say Star Wars: The Old Republic's Jedi Consular is a "magic" class. BioWare's released the official page for the newly revealed class, and looking through it proves that even in a galaxy far, far away you can find clothies.
The primary difference between the Knight and Consular is how they fight; one gets up close, while the other prefers to hang back a bit. Sure, the Consular can throw down in melee if need be, but when you command a significant degree of force powers why bother? Check out the new Consular screens below, and check out the official class page for all your lore related goodness.

I believe the sentinel won't be a class option but rather a "spec" that either the melee or caster jedi will be able to go into. So you might have a Jedi knight that focuses on force powers and is more like a Sentinel or a Jedi Consular that focuses on melee that makes him more like a Sentinel.

Why oh why are two of the consular's three sample powers lightsaber attacks in some form, after the "Ranged magic user" spiel?

One is force pulse and the other is a force smash. While they might have a short range they aren't saber attacks. The only one that was saber based was the thing about double bladed sabers.
People already have the wrong impression of the consular. They aren't a stand in the back and cast spell/force abilities class per say but rather a jack of all trades. They are more like a control class where they can melee and they can range but they get to choose which and when it best suits them.

Well then BioWare needs to stop literally saying "they might like to hang back a bit..."
As far as I can tell, if you wanted to play a Jedi, there's no reason to play the Jedi Knight. The Jedi Consular has everything you were familiar about in the movies.
They made a mistake making 4 force user classes.

So that basement-dwellers with nothing better to do can stress over this minor of all minutiae.
