Star Wars: The Old Republic rumored for spring in 2011

A long time from now, in a game store probably not too far away... you might be getting your copy of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Well, all right, spring of 2011 might not be all that far along, but if you're one of the many eagerly looking forward to Bioware's entry into the MMO arena, it certainly feels like an eternity.
ShackNews has recently reported on a rumor that John Riccitiello, CEO of Electronic Arts, mentioned that they were looking forward to their next big MMO launch in spring of 2011 while discussing the company's financial outlook. Although he was cautious and stated they had not announced a launch date, he did mention that the team was making "great progress" toward that timeframe.
Obviously, the game was not specified by name, which does technically mean he could have been referring to another game. But unless they've secretly been developing Warhammer Online II: The Warhammering, in all likelihood we can expect to see Star Wars: The Old Republic early next year. Which might be good news if you're a Bioware fan anyway, since Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2 are making enough of a dent on your wallet this year.

EA learned its lesson the hard way - you cant compete with a WoW expansion, and don't try it. Hopefully TOR will not be rushed and we will have a decent game, even if i am not particularly psyched about it, we haven't had a decent release in years.

Arrgh January 2010. Maths time = more painful wait. What if the faithful have quit MMO's and retired at a Zinga farmville by then? :O

Sounds about right, this isn't a Cryptic game that's going to rush to launch long before it's ready. Most people knew 2011 was the earliest this game was going to launch. It took them longer then 2 years just to create Mass Effect 2 and that game already had the engine built and it's a smaller console game with about 20-40 hours of gameplay according to BioWare. BioWare has also said that this is the biggest game they've ever taken on. You're not going to create a game of the size they're claiming in under 2 years, it's going to take time. I also wouldn't be surprised if the game gets pushed back from Spring 2011 to October/November 2011 or even early 2012, assuming this rumor has any truth to it.

Wow, you amaze me with your single minded hate for Cryptic.

Wow, you amaze me with your single minded, fanboi, defensive, kool aid drinking, love for Cryptic.
No I don't hate Cryptic, I hate their business practice of releasing bare bone minimum unfinished games and expect the gamers to fund the rest of the development for project.

Who is defending them? It's just funny that you somehow managed to turn even an article about a different game and different company into another attack on them.
CCon99 said on 11:52AM 1-12-2010
Where is there an attack? I used them as an example because it's a fact that Cryptic releases games early and unfinished. If I "hated" Cryptic so much like you judge me to, then why do I have a lifetime sub to one of their games? Because I wanted to support them as a company, but I won't blindly defend them when they're making bad decisions like releasing a buggy and incomplete game in under 18 months.
Posting 10-15 times per STO article telling people they are wrong because they don't have a positive opinion on STO, is defending them.
dudemanjac said on 1:05PM 1-12-2010
I think your lifetime sub is WHY you have such a problem with them, but that's just an opinion that I can't prove. Point is this article had nothing to do wit hCryptic, and yety you couldn't help but go there. Don't back off of it. Love who you are. it doesn't make you a bad person. And you may be exaggerating a little bit on my posting. Besides that it's usually a back and forth with the same couple of ppl, you included.
I've actually turned the corner a little bit thanks to JP. We had a lovely discussion in another thread. At least he has something of substance to say, and it's not just constant drivebys for the sake of it.
As for my defense of them, it's far from blind. I've said plenty of times that I just like to give the other side of the negativity. You had a lousy experience with them. I didn't. Me not seeing it your way doesn't make me blind. I usually talk loudest when I see a fact stated that is incorrect, which has been the case lately with some of the STO beta talk. So yeah, I defend them a lot, but that's only because I see a lot wrong with what ppl have said.
Just keeping a few ppl honest is all. I have my problems with them, but I'm not aon a crusade to bring them donw either.

"Love who you are. it doesn't make you a bad person."
LOL, sorrry but LOL
Are you really going to resort to the "doesn't make you a bad person" toolbox insults? Come on little boy, that's just as bad as mom jokes. I couldn't love my life more. I have an awesome husband, 2 beautiful children, and a high paying job that I only have to work 3 days a week for. But thanks for the chuckle on trying to paint "who I am" LOL.
I used Cryptic as an example because of their history of early releases, since that's what the article is about a game potential release. I'm sorry it offended you so much. Congrats you trolled me into posting multiple times, I'm sure you're delighted.
dudemanjac said on 2:20PM 1-12-2010
Well I'm happy you love your kids and husband, but I don't see what it has to do with the conversation. I'm actually a little upset that you think I'm trying to insult you. And trolling is definitely not something I do. I thought we were being rather civilized. But since you seem to think I insulted you or somehow tricked you into posting again, as though that can somehoe give me joy, I will explain to you.
You don't know me or the things I find enjoyable, so there is no way you could know that there is no malice in that statement from me. I adopted it from a man by the name of Ron Bennington of the Ron and Fez show on Sirus/XM radio. Far from being a tool box insult (I'd never heard anyone use it but him and myself) it was more an acceptance of something that some would perceive as bad. Some ppl like a beer for breakfast. Doesn't make you a bad person. I like big girls. Doesn't make me a bad person. You don't like Cryptic because of this that and the other reason. Doesn't make you a bad person. With there being so many ppl and attitudes in the world.
Ppl should just love themselves and not deny silly things like disliking a company because they don't like their games or whatever. Not an insult, just doesn't make any since for someone who keeps coming out against them to refuse to admit they don't like them.

"I thought we were being rather civilized."
So starting a "conversation" by calling someone "single minded" is civilized? You don't see how someone might take your "tone" as insulting? I brought up my family because of your love yourself comment, I have no way of knowing it's from a radio show.
I told you a few times already that I don't hate Cryptic, I have 2 friends who work there so I actually want them to do well so they still have jobs to support their families. But just because I don't want them to go out of business, doesn't mean I have to like their or any company who releases a game with limited features, just so they can get the game to market and have the customer pay for the rest of the games development. I know they like to think that's the nature of MMO's, but they're wrong. Games like Vanguard, AoC, WAR and their own CO have proven if you release an unfinished game that's not ready for release, you're only going to have a mass exodus of subscribers within 6-8 weeks after that release. That's the nature of the unfinished and barely tested MMO.
