The issue for me is that F2P games are becoming ever so cunning with their website layouts. Free Realms has next to no information on the actual game itself on the main page. You have to hit Game -> what is free realms? -> use side bars on the right to find out extremely vague information of what the game offers. So, most people that go to the website and hit the new player button first. It takes about 4 steps of choosing what type of character you want until it hits you with a create username screen.

Basically what I am saying is that 8 million accounts on Free Realms means nothing to me because they are basically forcing you to create an account to find out information about the game. It is just a clever trick to boost up the amount of accounts they have as a way to advertise the game.

Poe, you can easily find out about the game from online reviews and check out videos of game footage on places like YouTube. I agree that it would be nice if the main websites of these types of games had more actual info about their game, but few do. At least Free Realms has the actual costs for membership and such on their site, unlike most other F2P games. I think of FR as more a F2T (free to try) these days, now they've changed what free players can do, although you can do the Adventurer/Collecting job and Card Duelist to level cap.

The FR download is small and you can check out all the jobs (up to level 5) for free now. Give it a try, all you'll be out is your time.

As to numbers of players, I've been playing since the final "beta/preview". The game had lots of players at first, then really seemed to lose most of them once school started. I pretty much stopped playing for about 2 months as well, mainly due to the broken race/derby jobs, but since the beginning of December the game seems even busier than at launch. Seems to be plenty of people playing, even in the morning. How the combat change (from Easy to Super Easy mode) will affect the game long term, I don't know. It does seem to have greatly increased the numbers of players since it was changed.

Perhaps the most overlooked new feature are houses. Not the houses themselves, but what people are building with the various design blocks. Slides, mazes, artwork, towers, all kinds of stuff. I'm really impressed with a lot of the things people have created and have gone from thinking of the new house feature as "meh" to "pretty neat!". Very pleasant surprise!

That reminds me, I haven't been up in Free Realms for awhile, I should probably pop in and see some of the new stuff they got going on.

It's not a bad game, it's just not the flavor I usually pick.

But they did make it easy to play, no downloads, nuttin', just signup and play, and it's a fullscale MMO. I don't really care much for how they try to get ya to get add ons in the game tho, I think that should have been handled outside the game.

Great job SOE on a good game and the award nomination. As I said when this first launched, they hit this one out of the park. Now with the hints of the Clone Wars version of Free realms on the horion, you're almost guaranteed to have another hit on your hands.

I loved most of the time I spent playing this game, the quest system is quite fun ,and there is plenty to do in their little world. My only real beef was that even if you payed the membership fee, to complete some part so f the game, or to have a chance, like racing for example, you have to buy microtransactions for better cars, or whatnot. Members should be able to get everything from the cash shop, and only free to play players should have to pay to get those extras.
