Free trials ahoy for Lineage II
Filed under: Fantasy, Lineage 2, MMO industry, News items
Has it been a while since you stepped into Aden? Or perhaps you were never formally introduced to the world of Lineage II but always wanted to give it a shot? Well thanks to NCsoft's newest trial program, you now have a chance.
Lineage II's new 14-day free trial program is welcoming both new users and returning players back to experience the newest free expansion to the game, Gracia Epilogue. While returning players won't be able to use their old accounts, they can use the trial keys to create a brand new account that will let them play up to level 40 with three characters for the 14 days.
So if you've been looking for a game to fill your need to spill blood and siege castles, this might be a good time to try out Lineage II to see if it's for you.

That was my first thought too. If they want people to touch that infamous grief and grind fest, they're going to have to offer monetary incentives.

The joke for anyone reading this who hasn't played the game of course is level 40 would take the better part of half a year or more to reach grinding around the clock (unless they've fixed this recently).

Lineage 2 is a game I never got around to playing. FFA PvP combined with the typical Asian grindfest has never appealed to me. But, hey, I've got nothing to lose but some free time, and I have far too much of that lately. Downloading now. Here goes nothing.

If you didn't mind the grind of Aion and like FFA pvp you might like L2. But if not I would suggest staying away from it.

I stopped playing right after they release the second chapter. There was just way to much senseless grinding for me. I did really enjoy the castle sieges though, that was the only time I truly had fun playing this game.

I actually bought this about a year ago and gave it a whirl. Well, I gave it about 5 minutes because when I logged in with my new toon there were over a dozen gold sellers sitting in the spawn area. That gave me all the insight I needed and I immediately canceled.

Unfortunately this trial will finally enable there to be four times as many bots as players instead of just two.
I played it for a short time but the bot infestation put me off & everytime I've reactivated it was only worse than before.

Not sure I ever want to play this grindfest ever again. But downloading it, cuz I'm open-minded & it might've changed in the years since I last tried it.
However, one game that's for sure exciting & holding much interest is Warhammer Online & it even has an endless FREE Trial!: http://www.warhammeronline.com/trial/

You should at least give it a whirl - I spent a year playing it. Its PVP/Player faction system is second to none, however the amount of effort you have to put into the game to get anything cool is really epic (not in a good way).
Good example - (I really don't know if they fixed this or changed this - like most I'll have to go back and try it again) but we figured you'd have to have a bot or a paid chinese player playing your toon around the clock for the better part of a year and a half to get to max level. I've heard from friends who still play - past level 70 the amount of exp to level gets insane.
For NCSoft - seriously - get someone to sit down and make some serious design changes to it. The game is probably savable if you added quest based progression, easier reward system, a sane crafting system and a much much much more mild leveling curve (make it so it maybe takes a month to reach max level if you work hard at it). I know design work is expensive, but Lineage is worth saving I think (its got good story, wonderful graphics etc). As it stands - its really free to play quality at this point - I honestly believe the only people paying to play it anymore are the super hardcore.
