LEGO Universe begins beta signups
Filed under: Betas, New titles, News items, LEGO Universe
It was a bit quiet on the LEGO Universe front for most of 2009, with a reveal of screenshots, and a bit of development news here and there, but not much else.
January 2010 changed all of that, with a big reveal at CES that gave us a trailer full of zombie pirate awesome, and some actual alpha footage of the game. This quick progression from screenshots and interviews to trailers and gameplay footage led to the natural assumption that more was going to come quickly, and we were right: signups for the LEGO Universe beta began today, just a short while ago.
Don't tell us that it's a kids game and you're entirely too grown-up for it -- we know better. Nobody outgrows LEGO. Now go sign up for the beta, you know you want to. Signups can be made here, and we hope to see you in the beta. (Yes, we're signing up too. We told you: nobody outgrows LEGO.)
[Thanks to Dennis for the tip!]

Signed up for it the moment that we got the emails! It won't replace my current MMO (Star Trek just made me quit Warcraft) but I will play it on the side.

Just signed up; BUT: the link in the activation email was broken! (It was missing the account.lego.com domain at the very beginning, so it started "http://en-us/...".) Also, the link used the insecure protocol (http://) instead of secure (https://) which the activation page requires. Has that happened to anyone else, or is it just me?

Just signed up and got the activation e-mail but none of the links are working.

@John, in your browser's URL bar, replace the "http://" at the beginning of the link you were sent with "https://account.lego.com". You should end up with a URL that looks like "https://account.lego.com/en-us/activate.aspx?..." That's the URL that should have been sent out in these emails, and it'll let you finish activation and sign up for the beta.

@John
Yes it appears broken but if you navigate hit the link on the article above, it should take you to the confirmation page :)

Ya I signed up too. I'm guessing it will be fun, but I know it will be like crack cocaine for my kids either way.

I'm now expecting to see this launch before NetDevils other game in development, Jumpgate Evolution (if that one ever does of course).

Shame about that Jumpgate:Evolution. If I remember, it was supposed to be released spring of 2009 and they pulled with with no more release ever to be mentioned again.

Just a nitpick the plural of LEGO is LEGO, never an S. LEGO takes great pride in their brand name. So far as they used to have a page at legos.com telling using an S is innacurate

Yes, LEGO is a brand name. You do not need the "s". What you (Massively) meant to say was "LEGO bricks" or pieces.
We don't have any problem remembering that in Europe. Why is it so difficult for you American's to remember it?

Ugh. That is somewhat lame. I get that they would probably want you to say "LEGO Blocks" instead of "LEGOs". No one wants to be a Kleenex where your company name becomes a product name, but for LEGO that ship has somewhat sailed.
I - along with the majority of the world - will continue to say things like, "Hey! Stop taking all my LEGOs! I'm not done building my ultra-cool robot of destruction." or more often said, "Shit, I ran out of LEGOs! Time for a store run."

Claw, Americans also know that using 's on the end of a word indicates the possessive or a contraction, not plurality.
Why is that difficult for Europeans to remember?

Too bad the game isn't very well put together, and is broken in a dozen ways. :\

That's why its in a beta, Numb-nuts.
and as far as I have seen playing. it's not nearly broken in a dozen ways. I am really starting to doubt your credibility in this current Beta.
