Warhammer Online gets a new producer's letter
Filed under: Fantasy, Events, in-game, Game mechanics, Patches, Warhammer Online

Hot on the heels of the 1.3.4 patch, we've received another letter from Warhammer Online's producer discussing the state of the game and its immediate future. Carrie Gouskos, who has apparently inherited the position formerly held by Bruce MacLean and Jeff Skalski, has taken the opportunity to share information of the coming updates to the game. It's also a chance for a new outline of how the team wishes to improve upon community relations, with the promise of more frequent news and updates along with early player involvement in the testing process.
In addition for soliciting players for loading screen tips, the letter talks about what can be expected with the next two small patches for the game, 1.3.5 and 1.3.6. The former is slated to shift the core experience of cities and city sieges to an RvR experience, emphasizing PvP combat and with encounters balanced to shift based on population sizes. On the other hand, the latter is going to examine armor sets closely and try to provide a redesign for maximum player benefit. Warhammer Online fans can look forward to more about these features in the coming months, with any luck.

I wonder if this will make the game not suck?

Is any one playing WAR? Any numbers on subscribers?

They stopped hammering nails into WAR's coffin a long time ago, now they're simply throwing buckets of nails at it...
Too bad, cuz this was a brilliant game back in closed beta.

Many of us playing the game long-term sense that playership is actually increasing. We're meeting new people to tiers 2 to 4 frequently. And we're seeing many old-time players return.
The game still has too many bugs and design issues. (I wish the combat and careers lead would find a new career for himself.) But it doesn't suck to me at least. There's no other current generation game like it so far as RvR. I may reconsider WAR if Jumpgate Evolution (an upcoming game with RvR components) sees the light of day. But until then, WAR is my home.

Agree. The state of the game at the moment is far from *that* bad state as many think, or even –from some weird and unexplainable desire which I'll never understand– wish it was. (Even if it's mainly based on former bad experiences, and valid disappointment after launch. Hey, I'm a resubber as well, who quitted 5 months after launch, and came back in December... it's a difference, tbh). Apparently, the game will never be a huge financial success, has still got many issues (though none of them are real game-breaking for me), and on-the-fly development is kinda weird, indeed. But I hope it will work, and as long as I'll have fun with the game, I'll play it.
So, my best wishes to new lovely producer :)

If the playership is increasing then that's great news. It's been a rocky road for poor ol' WAR but if it has managed to turn a corner then that's really encouraging.

After all of the crap with Allods this week, and no other good F2P games with good PVP or RVR (until Aika), I'm going to resubscribe to WAR most likely.

Allods did blow up this week. But going back to WAR would take a rewrite. DAOC is still better than WAR.

Allods is like that grumpy old dog that always growls every time you try to pet it. Why won't it let us love it?

You guys sound like little kids in the back of the car constantly asking your parent if you're there now...
is the game dead now?
Now?
How about now?
Is the game dead now?
Is it dead now?
Now?
Surely its dead now, right?
You guys are surely breaking the record for the number of times you can state that a game has hammered the last nail into it's coffin. I don't need to elaborate here because I'll probably be right back here posting the same response when the next warhammer update is posted and there is another "final nail" hammered into the game.
Until then,

I think the patch is another step in the right direction, but I feel the producer's letter is a bloody joke.

I swear, the MMO crowed is the stupidest gaming crowed ever... They beat Nintendo loyalists, 360 fanboys, Mac lovers, you name it....It just blows my mind everything that's said by many of them.
Not saying every MMO player is an idiot, it just seems the stupidest ones post a lot.

Wars issues are many and this patch addresses some but the biggest issue is population imbalance. I'm a late night (central time) player and logging in night after night to find the city is under siege and no destro to help defend and no scenario's to join is getting on my last nerve. When Sc's are avaiable they are filled with premade RR60+ groups, that are rofl stomping every pug group that they come across. ORVR is the same order players zerging though zones with no destro to defend. I dont want to win all the time but getting rolled over and over is no fun either. Im sure on other servers the situation is reversed but the same (destro rolling order) but i refuse to start over again in this game. The issues with class balance are many with some classes being utterly useless.
This game needs drastic change not more gear and trinkets. I'm a realy big fan of Warhammer and would like to see the game improve but i have little hope after everything that has happened over the last year or so.
