Gala-Net releases Allods trailer

The title, which features player-crewed flying ships and a soundtrack by renowned video game composer Mark Morgan (Fallout, Fallout 2, Planescape: Torment), was developed by Russian game maker Astrum Nival and is the largest video game project in the country's history.

Can anyone tell me how the Airship combat is? I am pretty interested in this title even with all the controvery surronding the cash shop prices.

Nope. Can't say.
In the closed beta we JUST had guilds with enough cash to start building ships when the beta ended and wiped.
It's going to be quite a while before we have enough ships flying around for two to actually encounter each other.
The Astral (their name for the space the ships fly in) is a series of portals and is supposedly VERY complex to navigate.
So just getting out there and FINDING a zone to raid is hard enough. But to actually get out there and find another ship is near impossible until we start getting dozens (perhaps hundreds?) of ships out there.
If you start as an Empire character the tutorial take place on a ship and you get to fire the cannons but it's just a few starter quests so it doesn't give much of a taste.

Allods is the poster child for poor handling at launch. From fleecing it's player base as much as possible, ($20 for a bag with 6 extra slots, mounts requiring cash shop feed, and Fear of Death/Perfumes) to the horrible gutting of game mechanics it ranks numero uno for going from next big thing to next big example of what not to do.
I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole now. You'll say it's free so there's no harm but when you invest a substantial amount of time into a game you don't want to be knee capped in the end game by horrible mechanics and developers that are willing to sacrifice their ethics and product to force you into buying cash shop items. No thanks.

I'm too afraid that the "nerf to blazes or yank the skills right outta the class trees altogether and force players into the cash shop for items that do these things instead" antics of current Russian patch 1.7 will not only make their way onto the NA servers, but are a harbinger of more things to come in that same vein.
Astrum Nival nerfed literally every speed skill in the game so that their new mount would seem fast, and then made that mount run on cash shop food. So basically the only way you can move fast is to pay cash for it now. They also completely yanked the mana regen skills that multiple classes previously had right out of the game so players would feel forced to buy cash shop potions that do the same thing.
Hello! We can pay $15 a month for higher quality MMORPGs, and the devs don't suddenly make us pay more just to have the skills we used to have when we started! ROFL.
Yeah, sure, it's open beta in NA. But Russia's been running live since last October. They're not making beta adjustments there, they're majorly tanking the real, finished game. And Gpotato already stated that they can't prevent content from those patches from making its way to the NA servers.
All those poor sods can pray for now is a slow translation. ;) I used to be excited about this game, but it has totally fallen off the radar now. I'm not bothering to put time into characters (or money into that greedy, grasping cash shop) when AN could at any time yank more skills or remove more content and suddenly make it pay-for stuff.

You're comments are right on the money and kudos for a well written scolding.
I would like to add that, probably has already been said, this game is exponentially more expensive to play in the NA market. The game is polished and well put together with great features. If it were considerate of the NA players' pockets from the onset, I would gladly put down my current FTP MMO: Runes of Magic for it. Russians play cents while NA pay and will continue to pay astronomical dollars. Allods (NA) has come on record and stated that both Russian and NA markets are separate. This is a CLEAR and BLATANT statement; a slap to the face and wake up call to the NA population. They are going to inflate prices in the game so that they milk your pockets because the population can afford to pay the piper. Do not fall for the "there are exchange rates", "different markets", and "totally separate" comments from gPotato. Those are comments to blind the public and create excuses. gPotato will run the NA and Russian markets so how is THAT separate or an exchange. IT'S THE SAME COMPANY. Allods isn't the only game that practices this kind of bussiness, e.g., Runes of Magic does the same thing just not as "ass-faced" as Allods.
Bottom line is DO NOT PLAY this game. The FEAR OF DEATH end game mechanic and over priced bag upgrades is where gPotato will get you. You will end up paying far more than US$20 per month. I am switching to a subscription based game myself: EVE Online looks good. Anyone care to join me?

I'm not american (the Item Shop story was generated from NA server), but we got the same picture here in EU. Plus, we were/are saying Fear of Death is ruining the game (more than 200 posts in the "no moderators here" EU forums) since CB 4. As you can imagine there were no damn answers.
For me Allods is past, - after CB 1-4 and a plain FoD Open Beta (left at lvl 23) - just another "could have been" game. I am usually too lazy to defragment my drives, but I was so "excited" about uninstalling Allods that I did it.
You may have seen this before, but yet I gotta say I am pretty bored about gpotato economic "style", as a consequence I will avoid all offers - Aika and such... Fortunately, I'll be able to use single player RPGs until Gulid Wars 2 hits the market.

Gpotato pretty well wiped their ass with every positive review their game was getting. Even if they did roll back the changes they've put into game up in Russia this is going to taint their reputation for a long, long time to come.

that is correct , and are these the bastards that installed the pando media booster!? that shit was killing my PC by uploaded the game client in a bittorrent like mode and keep sending client data out

For anyone vaguely interested in Allods, go back to RoM instead.
RoM has come a surprisingly long way since launch, and if you're anything like me (gave it away post-launch) you should pop back to take a second look now.
I think back when RoM released there wasn't as much to compare it to, but now it really shines, especially when holding it up against the likes of Allods and Alganon.
In my opinion, every minute you invest in Allods is a complete and utter waste of time, teetering on a 'russian roulette' of unknown gameplay mechanic changes that they could introduce at any moment.
Whilst HiRez won't like it much, crank up RoM and roll an Elf Druid to see the new starting area - it's very well done and lots of fun.

A lot of people seem to be seriously pissed off about Allods, which I suppose is understandable. I, on the other hand have been enjoying my time with the game quite thoroughly. I am not relatively high leveled, so the FoD mechanic has not hit me so hard yet. The game is really quite pretty, plays well, and has an interesting story. I hope they listen to The North American, Russian, And European servers boisterous holler at their reprehensible business plans. I can only imagine what the offices at Galanet have been like in the last few weeks. I see corporate heads rolling while stronger and more vicious successors take hold of the reigns. The game did cost $12 million dollars to produce after all, there are people who have a vested interest in seeing returns on this product.

Same here, I've been enjoying the hell out of Allods and so has everyone else I've encountered in the game. Thankfully the population isn't suffering at all despite the negative attacks against the game. The current in-game community is just wonderful.
There are some folks who see the word Allods and can't resist posting a comment about how they hate the game and no one should be playing it. It's quite childish.
If you don't like it, don't play it. There are so many other games out there to choose from. Why waste time trying to convince other people not to play this one?

While it is true that it might be fun we as a community know what the future will most likely bring. Anyone that refuses to see that is just trying to deny the facts presented.
I personally can't picture myself playing a game where I would have to buy continually from a item shop to play pve or pvp end game. or for that matter a time when the a future Russian patch will cripple players and buff monsters out of the water making the balance of the game shift dramatically for the less fun side.
While I loved the graphics and game play I feel that the way the game is being handled is not one in which I want to put any of my gaming time in.
Nor for that matter many of us have fun with it by all means but I think I will go to another game that isn't going to literally take the fun out of the game without having to buy gameshop items.
