Choose my Adventure: Doing you a Favor

Filed under: Fantasy, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Culture, Free-to-play, Massively meta, Hands-on, Choose my Adventure

In this week's Dungeons and Dragons Online adventures, the Critical Mass guild came across a bit of a challenge, and not in the game. With last week's vote guiding our hero to spend his hard-earned Turbine Points on an adventure pack, not everyone in the group had those same points to spend. So we spent our playing time gaining favor, which can be turned into Turbine Points.

In lieu of an in-character story this week, I'm going to spend some time explaining Favor and the DDO store for anyone who is curious about how this all works. I'll also explain our next poll, as I'd like you to vote on the specific Adventure Pack in which our hard-earned points will be spent. Follow along after the jump for more!

Choose my Adventure: Depths of House d'Deneith

Join me as I brave my way through lands unknown in an adventure dictated entirely by you, the Massively readers! Vote for everything from game played to character creation to ultimate goal and watch it unfold in a series of journals and galleries here on the site. Then, as the ultimate goal is reached, we'll do it all over again in a new game!

Last week, you voted for two things: the Critical Mass guild to hit House of Deneith first, and for me to start using my accrued Turbine Points in the DDO store. We annihilated House of Deneith, but I still haven't found something good to spend my points on.

So this week, as we continue our journey through level 5 and beyond, the poll will seek answers to that pressing concern: How should I spend my money?! Keep reading below for the in-character journal of the adventures, my continued impressions of the game so far, and the polls for this week.

This week, we've made our way through the rest of the Waterworks quests in Dungeons and Dragons Online and into the Marketplace and the Cerulean Hills. Despite our limited time together, the Critical Mass bunch are really making headway through these quests.

We've finally brought back the polls for this week, as you'll have a chance to not only vote on where we go from here, but also enjoy a revisit to the use of Turbine Points earned so far. Follow along after the jump for Fahryn's in-character journal, my impressions and the return of the polls!

Oh, what a productive week we've had in Dungeons and Dragons Online. After arriving in Stormreach, we made it through the Harbor quests with no problem. And when I say we made it through the Harbor quests, I mean we made it through all of the Harbor quests.

Fahryn is now level 3 and ready for some new challenges, so follow along after the cut for his in-character journal, my impressions of our adventures so far and your chance to let us know where our path should lead us next

Being the first week with Massively readers in Dungeons and Dragons Online, I'd say we were fairly productive. In the first 15 minutes, we formed the guild -- aptly named "Critical Mass" -- and began the butt-kicking.

With last week's comments focusing on our completion of Korthos Island, we made quick work of that, finishing the main quests and arriving in Stormreach on our third night together. Now we patiently wait for our next adventure as you read through my impressions of the game so far, just after the jump!

It's always so exciting to get started in a new game with this series, and this week we officially kick off our time with Dungeons and Dragons Online. You voted earlier this week for the elements of my character creation, and I am happy to say that my new character is alive and well, and eager to begin his journey.

I've already discovered that this Choose my Adventure will need to be done a bit differently than the previous two, as I am almost completely unfamiliar with this game. What I have played was back during Module 7, and much of the game has changed since then. The voting will be less reliant on polls, and more on comment discussion. So follow along after the jump for a brief introduction to our newest adventurer, and where he will go from here.

Last week we ended our Lord of the Rings Online edition of Choose my Adventure with the retirement of Gibbi the Hobbit in his very own hobbit hole. This week, the votes have been counted and it appears that Dungeons and Dragons Online will be the next game in which I'll spend the next two months. I'm excited to make my way through DDO, especially since it's the first game in this series that I haven't played beyond level 10, and it will also be fun to try it out since it has re-released as a free-to-play.

So follow along after the jump for a set of polls that will determine character creation and play style throughout my adventures in DDO: Unlimited.

At this end of our second trip through the Choose my Adventure series, it's time to say goodbye to Lord of the Rings Online, reflect on what we've accomplished and of course, vote for the next game.

With last week's vote, I had you comment on what my final step should be, instead of leaving it up to a poll of choices by me. After reading a comment by Gamer52, I decided that was a wonderfully fitting end, and proceeded to plan Gibbi's retirement. On our last day together, the Massive Hobbits did plow through Dol Dinen (mostly), but for consistency's sake, I decided that going back to Dol Dinen from Rivendell wouldn't make much sense. Read along after the jump for Gibbi's closing story, a gallery of my favorite screenshots from this adventure, my final thoughts and the poll for our next game

As the Massive Hobbits recovered from last week's beating by Grimbark, we spent this week showing Book 3 who's boss. Now well into the eastern North Downs, the Trollshaws and finally Rivendell, we're suited up and ready to finish out the LotRO edition of Choose my Adventure in style next week.

So what will we do for our final adventure in Middle-earth? Vote on this week's poll, follow along on Gibbi the Hobbit's in-character portrayal and read my impressions of how the game has been going so far -- all after the jump.

It has finally happened. After all of this time, the Massive Hobbits have finally met their match in Garth Agarwen. Underleveled? Perhaps, but enough of it was completed to still get a good story out of it -- even if we were 5-6 levels too low for the instance in the first place.

So what does this week hold for the pint-sized adventurers? Vote on this week's poll, follow along on Gibbi the Hobbit's in-character portrayal and read my impressions of how the game has been going so far -- all after the jump.

Choose my Adventure: Weathertop has been taken

With Bree-land and the Barrow-downs behind them, the Massive Hobbits set off eastward to the dusty Lone-lands and Weathertop. Despite saying I wanted more of a challenge for last week, retaking Weathertop proved to be quite easy for us. So in keeping with the previous plans to stay with more advanced quests, we're going to make this one more of a challenge. Especially since our time in LotRO is approaching an end within the next few weeks.

This week on Choose my Adventure, the Massive Hobbits continued their journey through Bree-land and the Barrow-downs. Your votes last week placed them in the Great Barrow to clear the instance of undead and the evil Sambrog.

Now that the kinship has been formed and we have a regular group going for the Choose my Adventure: LotRO project, we're really starting to find our rhythm. As was voted upon last week, the Massive Hobbits completely dominated Book 1 and are working their way to Book 2 eligibility. These first few Epic Book questlines are made so a group can't plow through them at an early stage in the game, but at the rate we're going, it shouldn't be much longer. We also made our way through some southern Barrow Downs quests, including one that I seem to remember being much more difficult before the recent changes to the area.

So for this week, there's a whole new set of choices for our adventurous hobbits, as well as an amazing video of our adventures through Book 1.11. Throw us a vote to determine what we do next and read along for my (and Gibbi the Hobbit's) impressions of the latest adventures.

Oh do we have some stories to tell you. On last week's Choose my Adventure, Gibbi the Hobbit had decided that The Shire life was not for him, and he ventured off into the far-away lands of Archet. Not only were his measurements a bit off, but it turns out Archet was actually in great peril from the Blackwolds. He arrived just in time.

This week has seen some more great adventures for Gibbi and myself as the Choose my Adventure project has taken some exciting turns. We've formed a kinship just for this project, named Massive Hobbits. It seems an appropriate name (thanks to reader Shane), and quite ironic when we have Men, Elves or Dwarves in the group. I've also made dear Gibbi gain the Explorer crafting vocation, as voted upon last week. Gibbi's coinpurse thanks you for choosing the best money-making vocation there is. Read along after the jump for some exciting screenshots and Gibbi's own story through his adventures in Middle-earth.

All through the week you voted on what type of character I should make to begin my journey through this Choose my Adventure in Lord of the Rings Online. My new male Hobbit Warden has begun his new life on the Brandywine server and is ready for action!

So without further ado, I present to you Gibbi of the Harfoots! His story is a sad one, but he has determined that his life needs some adventure, which is very unbecoming of a hobbit. Unless you count those meddlesome Tooks, of course. Follow along after the jump for his background story, another poll for next week and a list of playtimes where we can all play together and you can have your chance to be involved in his evolving story.
