One Shots: A toast to your doom

Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Guild Wars, One Shots

Every year in Guild Wars, the Mad King Thorn invades, demanding that the residents there laugh -- or die. But for all that this may sound incredibly ominous, you can't help but appreciate just how utterly cool the ArenaNet team has made their game look. Today's spooky yet gorgeous screenshot comes to us from Thorband, who captured this image during the recent Guild Wars Halloween events. Add in those especially awesome wings, the grinning moon, and a ghoulish visage, and that's a hard Halloween image to beat!

Have you seen something really, really cool but unquestionably evil? We'd be thrilled if you'd share with the rest of us. Just email it to oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll post it out here and give you the credit. (Meanwhile, we'll be turning it into our desktop image for the day!)

One Shots: A strange summoning

Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Dungeons and Dragons Online, One Shots

As we visited the lands of Lord of the Rings Online yesterday for a bit of spooky fun, today we thought we'd take a peek in at Dungeons and Dragons Online. While this isn't specifically a Halloween shot, we thought the spooky summons was a nice counterpoint. This image comes to us from Tanek, who writes in to explain: [this] shot was taken during a show in the beta this past summer. I think the show was in the Marketplace, but I'm not sure. I'm also not sure I want to know exactly what is being summoned. Whatever it is, it does not seem happy.

If you're playing a game we only see on occasion -- or have never seen -- we want to hear from you! Show us your favorite areas, tell us a bit about the lore, or maybe just tell us why you like it. Email them to oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name and the name of the game. We'll post them up and give them a chance to shine.

One Shots: Who ya gonna call?

Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Lord of the Rings Online, One Shots

While we didn't get in a bunch of Halloween shots, we did get a handful in, which I'll be sharing with you as we move into another great weekend full of gaming fun. Today's not-so-spooky image comes to us from the Lord of the Rings Online Landroval server, which seems to be a great place to be if you're into getting lots of RP out of your MMORPG! Harper Hendee sent back this annotated postcard from their events and explains it for us.

I know you don't usually take annotated screenshots but this is from a huge RP/storytelling/PvMP/musical event on Landroval called The Oathbreaker Captains. It culminates on October 31st with an army of Captains and their Oathbreaker pets fighting an army of spiders in the PvMP area of the Ettenmoors. This shot was snapped as they were geting a sendoff from the locals in Bree. They were happy to have the departed spirits fighting for them and to have those spirits... out of Bree. Lonely Mountain Band provided sendoff music as the spirits manifested in the Haunted Alley and made their way to the Prancing Pony.

We love to hear about role-playing events in MMOs! If you and your group are doing something fun, grab a great screenshot of it and send it our way. Pop it into an email to oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what's going on. We'll feature it here, and who knows - you might draw some more RPers to your next event who saw it here!

One Shots: Wary in the woods

Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Warhammer Online, One Shots

When traveling alone in the woods, it's generally a good idea to remain on your guard. This is especially true in Warhammer Online, where the forces of Order and Destruction are locked in a never-ending battle for supremacy. Thankfully, this cautious lady happens to have an enormous feline companion at her side, just ready to chow down on anyone or anything interested in attacking her. Today's great Warhammer Online One Shots was sent in to us by Yavvy, who didn't explain what she seems to be defending against, only noting that this is a: Rank 8 White Lion, having just entered Hunter's Vale.

Do you have screenshots of your favorite game that you haven't sent in to us yet? If so, why are you holding back? You should gather those up and send them to us here at oneshots AT massively.com. We can always use more screenshots to show off.

One Shots: Glad they're on our side

Filed under: Super-hero, Screenshots, One Shots, Champions Online

It's always disquieting when you smack up against a giant boss who is ready to tear your face off and feed it to you at their earliest opportunity. Thankfully for Ranter, who captured this super-sized pair in Champions Online, these weren't bosses but instead other players. We can only be glad for him, as this now means he's got some enormous help for missions - assuming they can get to the mission without destroying everything, anyway. Ranter writes: When they said Champions Online was growing, they weren't kidding! Players have discovered an ability to grow in size...

All MMOs from big to small to ones with big characters are welcome. Just email your screenshots in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll post them here and give you the credit.

One Shots: No telling what the future holds

Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Fallen Earth, One Shots

It is a world twisted by the Shiva virus, where countries turned on one another until only a small pocket of humanity is now left. But even facing the adversity of radiation, mutations, sand worms, and enormous cockroaches, the people of Fallen Earth soldier on, moving towards a better future. You know, one involving crafting and rebuilding society and a bunch of butt-kicking. Today's great One Shots comes to us from Dethgar who was traveling through the wastes and sends this postcard back: This is me along the road from Oilville to Embry Crossroads. My computer barely runs the game, but I've been pleasantly surprised by this game since beta. To the future!

Can you believe it's been 2 years since we started One Shots? It has! We'd like to take this moment to thank you all for the great images you've sent in over the last two years, which has helped us amass an enormous gallery. If you'd like to be a part of the upcoming year, send in your MMO screenshots to us here at Oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. Excelsior!

One Shots: From the shadows

Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Guild Wars, One Shots

While many are enjoying the tail end of the Mad King's Revelry event in Guild Wars, there are still wild, eerie battles to be had at other times as well. Today shows off one such encounter, sent in to us by Bob J. who writes in to explain the scenario: Slavers' Exile is a dungeon with multiple parts. The final part contains boss battle is with Duncan the Black, who is trying to absorb the powers of the Great Destroyer, which was killed at the end of the main Guild Wars: Eye of the North storyline. Duncan is a powerful Ritualist and one of the more annoying bosses in the Guild Wars universe. This screen is of one of my friends taking him down with Sliver Armor and Shadow Form.

One Shots relies heavily on great reader screenshot submissions, so if you're playing a game that doesn't get love as much as you might like, please do take a moment and send us some of your favorite screenshots. Just email them in to oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll post them up here and give you the nod for sending them along!

One Shots: One among many

Filed under: Sci-fi, Screenshots, EVE Online, One Shots

The one thing that really differentiates EVE Online from many other MMOs out there is the depth of control that players have over sectors and all the machinations that go on daily in the universe of New Eden. You never know when friend will become foe; when trusted ally will become ultimate enemy. Today's great EVE Online One Shots was sent in to us by Kel'taith of Eve Defence Force, who tells us of a recent operation he was part of.

Recently Goonswarm and Zenith Affinity, the largest alliance (and their "pet") in EVE invaded my alliance Systematic-Chaos. We have had hostile relations for quite some time so war was a easily foreseeable outcome. Lucky for us we are a well liked alliance and have many allies. This screen-shot was taken in A1-AUH during a operation to rid us of all of Goonswarm and Zenith POSes in one go. The result was a combined fleet of 900 at its height, almost 300 of which were massive capital and super-capital ships. Twenty enemy POSes were killed that night, and many are calling this the largest fleet of capital ships ever seen. You can see my tiny interceptor that was used as the warp in for this fleet of carriers. With cooperation, proper tactics, and loyalty towards allies you can achieve anything in this game.

We love to hear of cool things like this! So if you're part of a battle, please snag some screens and send them our way. Email them to oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description. We'll post them out here for everyone to enjoy -- but we take no responsibility when someone decides to wardec you.

One Shots: Darkness lies ahead

Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Lord of the Rings Online, One Shots

For the day before Halloween we thought we'd bring you something pretty scary. But then we thought to ourselves that it's Friday, and that's pretty awesome. So we opted for a compromise showing both scary and awesome at the same time! Today's great Lord of the Rings Online One Shots comes to us from Leitchy, who captured this mix of beauty and danger just ahead. Leitchy writes in: I know you've had lots of pics from Lord of the Rings Online, but I think this one is the best of all. Looking from a point beyond Far Chetwood, we can see the ruins of Amon Sul in the distance. A couple of half-orcs in the middle distance are the only blot on the landscape.

With so many different Halloween events going on this weekend, we know there are going to be some great screenshot moments. So grab some of those and send them in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. If we get enough, maybe we'll do a special spooky version of One Shots to show off all the holiday adventures!

One Shots: It's a bird! It's a plane!

Filed under: World of Warcraft, Fantasy, Screenshots, One Shots

Sure, the peace between the Alliance and the Horde in World of Warcraft is supposed to be present, but it doesn't stop them from trying to take each other out whenever they can. Take for example today's One Shots sent in to us from Minifig of the Darkness Beyond Twilight guild. While this is obviously a Horde base on the Isle of Conquest, it doesn't stop Minifig from flying straight into it, in what appears to be a crazy attempt to ram straight into their zeppelin. Crazy or brave? You make the call!

With millions of World of Warcraft players, we actually don't get too many screens from that game. If you'd like to send one in from WoW or any other MMO, we'd be glad to post it. Drop it into an email addressed to oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll show it off to all our readers and give you the nod.

One Shots: Elvis is everywhere

Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Aion, One Shots

Okay, okay. It's not Elvis, but we feel reasonably certain he'd approve of those dashing sunglasses and the hair. That said, this One Shots comes to us from Justin M. who felt that a screenshot we've run earlier didn't do the lovely looks of Aion justice. As such, he sent in his own pretty shot along with the following note for us all to enjoy! Justin writes: Saw you post a picture talking about how beautiful Aion is, but the picture wasn't nearly as great as the many, many scenes that this game has. Here is one of my early pictures showing the diversity and beauty of the landscape, creatures, and my toon at level 14.

Think you've found a cooler looking shot from your favorite game? Why not toss in your own contribution and show off how awesome your favorite game is! It's easy to do. Just email it to oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll post it out here and give you credit for capturing a great moment.

One Shots: We all float down here

Filed under: Super-hero, Screenshots, One Shots, Champions Online

Sometimes, no matter how hard you try - you just can't save all the civilians. That said, it's not every day that they wind up floating, either. This particular strange corpse shot was sent to us by Drazat, who captured this image in Champions Online while looking around a submarine for people to help. A great image for this spooky time of year, we think.

If you've found something bizarre on your travels in MMO territory, why not grab a screenshot and send it in to us! Just email it to oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description of what we're seeing in the image. We'll post it out here for everyone to share in a moment of communal weirdness.

One Shots: Gates would be proud

Filed under: Sci-fi, Screenshots, Fallen Earth, One Shots

In the world of Fallen Earth, you really never know what you're going to run into next. Sure - you can count on infected during the current Days of the Dead promotion. If you wander too far into the wastes, it's likely some form of mutated pack poultry will take a chunk out of your backside - if not send you back to a spawn point. But sometimes it's the little things that just make us stop and remember - this is set in a world familiar to us. Today's funny One Shots comes to us from Ampersand, who is part of The Fourth Tribe clan. He writes in: It looks like the Blue Screen of Death has something in common with cockroaches: it can survive the apocalypse. This screenshot shows some of the humor in Fallen Earth. It was taken in the Kingman Prison instance.

If you're among the many trying out Fallen Earth - or playing any other MMO - feel free to send in any funny or interesting screenshots you run across on your travels. We love to see them. Just email them to oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll post them here and let the world share in the funny.

One Shots: Choose your own adventure

Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Dungeons and Dragons Online, One Shots

With an Xfire contest, a video contest, and a pumpkin carving contest, there are tons of things going on in Dungeons and Dragons Online right now. We think it's pretty awesome how people are flocking to this beautiful game. Of course, the free-to-play bit doesn't hurt, either! Still, with lovely areas like the one Tanek has captured and sent in to share with us, it's not really a surprise many are taking a second look. To give us a bit more background on this image, Tanek writes in: In honor of the new Choose My Adventure location, I thought I'd send in [one] of my favorite screenshots from Dungeons and Dragons Online. [This] is a shot of the Cerulean Hills wilderness zone at night. The DDO graphics, in my opinion, still hold their own against the newer games out there today. This has been my login background for a few months now and I'm never tired of seeing that great night sky.

Why not join the fun and send in your own screenshots to be featured here on One Shots? We can always use more to pick from. Just email them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the game its from, and whatever other information you'd like to give us. We'll post it for everyone to enjoy and give you the credit.

One Shots: It's all about the PvP

Filed under: Sci-fi, Screenshots, EVE Online, One Shots

While mining may not be the most exciting thing one can do when playing EVE Online, there is something to be said for it - it can be pretty solid ISK! Get into a group and it's a lot more interesting. Join a bigger group and go hunting resources in nullsec, and mining gets a lot more interesting! Today's lovely EVE Online One Shots comes to us from Andrea V. who was out doing some mining recently and caught this image. Andrea writes in: I've included an interesting asteroid formation I ran into while gas harvesting earlier today. Gas is a crucial part of booster production. It isn't the most exciting profession in the game, but it's a nice way to pass the time! And eventually, you do get to shoot people.

MMOs from big to small - all are welcome here! Just grab a screenshot and send it to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick description. We'll post it here for everyone to check out. It's easy and fun!
