High level raiding. Summon the image in your mind of dozens of avatars, gathered for the kill. Chain healing, zerging, buffs, procs, endless technical terms, marathon gaming sessions ... it can mean only one thing. EverQuest. The original MMO addiction, EQ has practically defined the endgame experience for all the games that have come since. While the hardcore raider is in the minority among the gaming population, the constant need to keep these community pillars fed has fueled game expansions for the better part of a decade. Only today with games like Guild Wars and Warhammer Online are we starting to see true alternatives to raiding at the high level, in the form of long-lasting PvP components. Just the same, the popularity of WoW has made more 'casual players' into raiders than would have been thought possible back in the days of Sol A and B.
