Tribal Heads

Arguably the biggest innovation Arena.net brought to Guild Wars with Nightfall was the departure from the usual MMO setting. The original Prophecies was sort of a dystopic fantasy and Factions had a vaguely Asian theme - both elements explored in videogames and fantastical literature. Nightfall opted instead to investigate cultural elements lifted from our own world's continent of Africa. This theme touched all levels of the gameworld, from quests and characters to monsters plucked right from tribal mythology.
