World of LegoCraft: Booty Bay in Lego form

Filed under: World of Warcraft, Fantasy, Interviews

Yes, that's right, two people actually sat down with all of their Lego blocks and worked out how to build Booty Bay with only 100,000 pieces! Astrylian and Raeina, a husband and wife team of Lego and World of Warcraft fanatics, completed their five foot replica of the Steamwheedle Cartel's southern most city in just under a month of building. Lucky for us that they decided to sit down with our sister site, WoW Insider, and chat about the whole project!

One of the most remarkable things about the whole display is that there's not a single custom built Lego piece in it. Everything was built using standard Lego pieces, such as the head of Dobby from the Harry Potter set being used as the head for the various goblin models. Even with that limitation, the scene is very well done and quite accurate. If you want to see the whole interview and learn how they did it, run on over and visit WoW Insider for the full details of the build!

One Shots: Fireworks over the Bay

Filed under: World of Warcraft, Fantasy, Screenshots, One Shots

Today's One Shots is actually one from this blogger's personal archives. This Troll Rogue is enjoying the holiday fireworks in Booty Bay from World of Warcraft, taken before Burning Crusade was released. American MMOG-industry companies are off for the holiday weekend, and we are running on a skeleton crew as well. However, those of us still lurking around the offices are keeping an eye out for news for you.

In the meantime, we hope those of you stateside have a great (and safe) holiday with friends and family. To the rest of you out there, don't worry - we'll be back up to speed once we've had a chance to sleep off all the partying!

And hey, if you have the chance to snap some screenshots while enjoying in-game holiday events this weekend, send them in to us at oneshots AT massively.com! We'd love to see what you're up to.

One Shots: Welcome to Booty Bay

One of the things we really like about some of these One Shots is showing how things have changed from the early days to now. Take, for example, the above screenshot sent in to us by Gorlac, Orc Hunter from the guild Astrum Brumalis on the Kil'jaeden server. This was taken from back in the days of World of Warcraft's "Friends and Family" alpha. The water's a little murkier, the details aren't as clear, and there's a human statue... wait, what? That's right folks, the statue in the background in Booty Bay was originally a human male, arms outstretched to welcome you. We heard the tales about it being goblinized due to being too similar to a certain religious statue in Brazil, but we just like to think that it's more in keeping with the Goblin nature; those scamps will market anywhere.

Have you got a screenshot that shows off an interesting quirk of the landscape, or some cool bit of history? If so, send those over to us at oneshots@massively.com. (full-size, please!) We love to look around the MMO landscape, so any and all MMOs welcome!

The Lunar Festival is underway in Azeroth!

Filed under: World of Warcraft, Fantasy, Culture, Events, real-world, Events, in-game, Lore, News items

World of Warcraft has a ton of special holiday events all year 'round, most of them in homage to real-world events. The Lunar Festival is no exception. Coinciding with Chinese New Year, the Lunar Festival has more to offer players than just eye candy. Inhabiting every major city in Azeroth, on both sides of the fence, stand elders of each race, ready to provide special Coins of Ancestry to those who show respect. These Coins may be redeemed for various novelty items.

And don't forget to check out the fireworks celebration in each city that begins after sunset and runs each hour. This event will run until February 23rd, and today, which marks the actual Lunar New Year, there will be festivities Stormwind, Thunder Bluff, Booty Bay, and Moonglade. For a complete listing of elder locations and rewards, check out this link. Kung Hei Fat Choi, warriors!
