Fallen Earth fan gets tattoo, hasn't played game yet

Filed under: Fallen Earth, Fan art, Interviews, New titles

World of Warcraft
tattoos are probably a dime a dozen, and if you've gotten one, you're relatively safe, because clearly that title's proved to have staying power.

But how about getting permanent ink for a game that's not even officially out yet?

That's what 25-year-old Sweden resident Joakim has done. The support technician for a Swedish internet service provider has gone out and gotten the logo for the upcoming post-apocalyptic MMO Fallen Earth on his leg.

Both Joakim and developer Fallen Earth LLC have sworn that this isn't some coordinated PR stunt. We recently got a hold of Joakim via e-mail, and he explained why he got the tattoo and why he'll never regret it.

All Points Bulletin video podcast shows off some ink

Filed under: Podcasts, Video, All Points Bulletin, Crime

All Points Bulletin is one of those upcoming games that tends to defy easy categorization. It's an urban crime game that has persistence, quests (missions), and fantastic customization options. It's not an MMO as we'd typically define it, and APB developer Realtime Worlds has also hinted that it may eventually become something of a virtual world. Maybe this is part of why we're interested in this game, it seems to be breaking new ground in online games.

We've been checking in now and again on the All Points Bulletin video podcast which always gives us some new perspective on this title. Realtime Worlds often emphasizes how deep the game's customization options are going to be in these videos, and this week's is no different. Given that you'll play a criminal (or a vigilante who hunts them) in APB, what self-respecting felon doesn't overload on tattoos? The fifth APB video podcast shows us some of the ink players will soon be sporting in the game. Chris Collins from the ABP team visits Metalurgey tattoo and piercing parlour in the Realtime Worlds hometown of Dundee, Scotland, to see how the game's ink compares to the real thing. All Points Bulletin video podcast shows off symbol creation and character customization

Filed under: Video, New titles, All Points Bulletin, Crime

Since E3 2009 the All Points Bulletin team at Realtime Worlds has been releasing video podcasts showing aspects of the urban crime title, and no doubt gaining some new fans in the process. We mentioned an earlier video that focused on customization options players will have, but Realtime Worlds is taking that a step further in their latest video podcast, which walks the viewer through the layer-based symbol customization players will use in All Points Bulletin.

The demonstration from senior concept artist Jon Stockwell shows how simple it is to create and manipulate layers in a symbol, resulting in your own unique look. As the video shows, that symbol can be applied to characters in the form of tattoos or graphics on clothing, and even used to detail your vehicles. Have a look at the video we've embedded for you below, and let us know what you think.

38 Studios launches spiffy new website

Filed under: Fantasy, MMO industry, New titles

The next step in 38 Studios' unrelenting march towards world domination has come to fruition. They've upgraded their internet digs from the flash page that they've had since they announced the formation of the company, to a slightly more mundane, but eminently more navigable design. We were a bit sad to see that their mascot Munch was relegated to background status, and couldn't eat our cursor as he once did.

On the plus side, there appears to be a small bounty of goodies to be found on the new site. They've got some more pictures of the team, including a shot of big boss Curt Schilling getting the aforementioned Munch tattooed on his bicep. Of course, we will not be sated by shiny new websites and artistic expressions of dedication alone. We have to punctuate this post as we do with most of our other posts about 38 Studios with a demand for more information about Copernicus!

Lineage II's Bunny Money event

Filed under: At a glance, Fantasy, Lineage 2, Contests, Culture, Events, in-game

NCsoft has something funtastical (see what I did there?) in mind to celebrate the coming of Spring in Lineage II. According to their press release: 'Adventurers all across Aden and Elmore will soon be able to travel to the curious shores of Fantasy Isle (sans the long swim), where its diminutive inhabitants are celebrating the season with a new event called Bunny Money!'

They don't say what the event actually entails (you'll have to visit their homesite on March 7th to find that out), but some of the prizes are S-grade armor, high-grade Soul Crystals, shadow Agathion bracelets, and more! If those sound enticing to you, you'll still have to wait until Friday to find out how you'll get them.

Call me a nostalgist, but when I read the words 'diminutive inhabitants' in the same sentence as 'Fantasy Isle', all I can hear in my head is 'Da plane, boss! Da plane!'

Behind the Curtain: How far is too far?

Filed under: World of Warcraft, Fantasy, Sci-fi, EverQuest, EverQuest II, Final Fantasy XI, Star Wars Galaxies, Behind the Curtain

Mac & cheese is bad enough - but this!?!?How far do you go to show how much you love your favourite MMO?

Would you have a tattoo done? Our sister site WoW Insider has, in the past, posted about people having tattoos of various World of Warcraft symbols done. I sport a tattoo myself, and I've certainly considered getting a WoW tattoo done. Tattooing is certainly an extreme, and fairly permanent, way of professing your love for a game, so I suppose that might be 'too far' right there.

You could go for a simpler option, and pick up some of the nifty official merchandise available for various games instead.

I doubt you'll be surprised to hear that there is a veritable plehtora of merchandise available for WoW. There's the pen and paper RPG, (which I have but can't find anyone willing to indulge me an take part in my campaign) the TCG with its many tasty loot cards, and there's the wearable merchandise. Why not grab yourself a T-shirt or two – my personal favourite is the Camp Taurajo one. Wear one of these around town during downtime and see how many "For the Horde!" or "Grab your sword and fight the Horde!" cries you can hear being thrown your way. I wouldn't bet much on the latter though, to be honest. Sorry Mike.

If your place of work has a 'dress down' day in effect, declaring your allegiance for the entire cafeteria to see may unearth a fellow WoW player you never knew was there.
