One Shots: Getting used to her wings

While there is some swirling controversy about various things within Aion, many people are still thrilled with how beautiful the game is. While it isn't the next step in MMO innovation, it does combine gorgeous graphics like the ones above with well-known game mechanics and an interesting story. Today's Aion One Shots comes to us from our regular contributor, Veng, who snapped this shot just before release. She writes in: [This is a] player character hovering in flight at Altgard Fortress, one of the first areas a young Asmodian travels to after ascending to be a Daeva.

One Shots: Volatilis solus

Aion seems to be dividing players - some love it, some absolutely hate it. The one thing that very few people seem to disagree on is how the game looks when it's on a rig that can run it cranked up. The details of the game on the highest settings are polished to a mirror shine. Today's Aion image comes to us from Veng, who has this to say of her beta experience: The detail in the player characters is phenomenal. This is my level 17 Asmodian Cleric wearing a rather contemplative expression. That's one of the features that impresses me - characters faces aren't static but go through a variety of expressions, making them seem even more real.

One Shots: Ghost wings

The other day we had the great luck to be able to give away 1,000 Aion Closed Beta 6 keys. We love to give out keys where possible since that gives our readers a chance to check out upcoming games for themselves. With Aion, there seems to be a bit of a divide - some love it, some just don't care. This Aion screenshot comes to us from Veng who has been checking out the beta for some time now. She writes in to tell us a bit about what she thinks: Even the flight transportion in Aion is beautiful! Talk to the flight transporter in any village and you're engulfed in the diaphanous form of a spirit and flown to your destination at speed.

One Shots: Fiery skies

When you've already made it to World of Warcraft's endgame, run a character or two up, raided, gathered all manner of extra achievements and the like, what are you to do? Why, start over! This excellent screenshot comes to us from Veng of the Lothar server, who tells us a bit more about it: The brilliant colors of the sky matched the burning farm as the young Death Knight wings away having rained destruction down from above. A good day's work. The Lich King will be pleased.

One Shots: On a pale zhevra

Today features a screenshot of a fierce Orc Warrior, alone, waiting for others to arrive. Regal, she waits atop her most awesome Refer-a-friend Zhevra mount, keeping an eye out for trouble. Today's One Shots comes to us from Veng, who sent in this great screenshot of her character, standing watch in Zangarmarsh in World of Warcraft. This particular mount is only obtained as a refer-a-friend bonus, but it's by no means the only reason to hook a friend in! There's also that sweet 3x experience multiplier and the ability to grant some of those levels to a completely different alt. As far as recruitment goes, it's a pretty sweet deal.

One Shots: Fear the hand that wields Frostmourne

While we've seen several views of the new Death Knight starting area that came in as part of World of Warcraft's recent expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, we're really quite fond of this one. It gives you something of an idea of just how small players feel in terms of size while standing next to the Lich King and his cursed sword, Frostmourne. Today's One Shots of Arthas and Frostmourne comes to us from Veng, who captured this image when she started her own Death Knight. Chilling!

There's lots of new graphical hotness in several games that we haven't seen yet, so what are you waiting for! One Shots: Quick! Before we melt!

As some have noticed, the Smokywood Pastures goblins appear to be ramping up for the Feast of Winter Veil in World of Warcraft. Among the many things you can get as part of your treats is a snowman costume like in the above screenshot, sent in to One Shots by Veng, who plays an (ultra-rare) female Orc Warrior on the Lothar server. Of course, when you couple the costume with running an instance like oldschool World of Warcraft 40-man raid favorite, Molten Core, things can get pretty interesting. This year we suspect we'll see a few more situations like this as players not only gobble up those Smokywood Pastures goods and chase their old world raid achievements. (Ragnaros is one of the boss kills that didn't retroactively credit in the new achievement system.) And hey - don't forget to bring your Eternal Quintessence, even if you are a snowman!
